WESTERN FINAL: BC Lions vs STAMPEDERS
Calgary won 3 games against BC Lions so it means they owned the Lions this season. But stop right there! BC Lions still have the best defensive linemen in the league but these guys seems to be having problem against the rock and sock'em Stampeders' offensive linemen. I love Rob Lazeo's interview yesterday when a reporter asked how come BC Lions DLine are having a tough time against the Stamps OLine. Lazeo said that is because they don't like to get punched in the mouth. Everybody knows Lazeo and Pilon had a reputation for being tough and I guess the rookies are too.
I would think the Stamps can beat the Lions tomorrow and the reason why BC Lions are still playing in the playoff was because of Michael Bishop's incompetent plays and Saskatchewan's too many turnovers. I don't think BC expects to have an easy time against the Stamps.
OFFENSE: Henry Burris got snubbed on the All Star selections. Pretty weird that he is the Western nominees for the Outstanding Player of the CFL and the guy were not even voted in for All Star. Whoever voting the All Star should get their head a shake.
Burris will be the key player in this game. If he's hot, I can't see the Stamps lose this game.Burris backups are: Nealy, who did well running for TD last game and Procter who I think looks good in his short stint. Not sure if Sankey is still in Stamps' plan. All Star RB Joffrey Reynolds will have to prove the fans, the media and himself that he can win championship and play well when the going gets tough. I am sure Reynolds will have a ball against the Lions. If he is not effective enough, we still have two types of RB who can play in Jon Cornish and Summers. Cote is the other RB/FB in the lineup. Teyo Johnson I am very impressed with this giant receiver. He can catch the ball and he is also a good blocker. I believed he is one of the reason Burris and Reynolds and other RB have some rooms to run the ball. He is like another OLine out there and he is a good threat as well. Nik Lewis, what can you say about this guy? He plays hard all the time and he blocks well and also a huge threat in catching the ball. He is one of the best receiver in YAC (Yards After Catches). CFL leading receiver Rambo I think will have a good game against BC again. Copeland, Ralph, Thelwell and Arthur are the other threats for the Stamps. Don't forget Summers and Reynolds can also catch the ball and gain lots of yardage after the catch.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Jesse Newman and Archibald should be back in the lineup, not sure if Antonio Hall will be playing as well. With Rock'em Sock'em Rob Lazeo and Jeff Pilon plus Tsoumpas, I have to say Wake, Hunt, Johnson and Williams will have a hard time going after Burris and Reynolds.
DEFENSIVE LINEMEN: Charles Hughes should be back tomorrow. Him and Labinjo along with LB James, Armour and Rasheed will have to stop that slick little RB Stefan Logan. I would rather let this guy loose all night than Pierce or Jackson having lots of time throwing the ball to Lions receivers. Eddie Freeman, and Hodges will take the other DLine starting spot. The rest of the Dlines are Justin Phillips, Miguel Robede, and Randy Chevrier.
LINEBACKERS: Like I mentioned above Jojuan Armour will have his hands full chasing Logan I guess this is his time to show why the Stamps chased to sign him in the off-season. Shannon James and MLB Saleem Rasheed are the other starters while Dwayne Carpenter will go back as a backup along with Calixte, Grootegood, LeMarcus Rowell and Ternovatsky.
SECONDARY: I like the way they frustrated Geroy Simon in the last game. Lenny Walls and Brandon Browner played well shutting down Simon with Lysack's help for sure. Brandon Smith, Lysack and Anderson are the other starters. The rest of the secondaries are Milton Collins, Keon Raymond and Markus Howell. The only question mark so far this game is if Lenny Walls are ready to go back from his slight ankle injuries during the bye week. If he can't play, it looks like JR Ruffin will be inserted or Calvin Bannister. The whole secondary played tremendously last game and I can see another repeat performance in this Western Finals.
SPECIAL TEAM: The coverage and the returns have been soild all season. One thing I noticed lately was Browner is not the usual the first person to get into the returner. It doesn't matter anyways because whoever replace him to be the first guy does his job as well. All Star Kicker Sandro is always good and Punter Burke Dales have been good lately. Returners Howell and Summers are improving at a right time. The coverage team will didn't really have a tougher time against the slick running of Ian Smart last game.
The weather will be awesome with chinook and high 13 Celsius. The question is, is it going to be windy. I can see the Stamps beating the Lions again if they play smart and not make some unneccessary turnovers or penalties. Defensive should keep prsssuring the QB whether it is Pierce or Jarious Jackson. I am hoping Pierce will start as he is more like a pocket QB while Jackson can be threat running the ball as well with huge arms. Secondary should be aggressive and not give the receivers a lot of room.
GO STAMPS GO!!

I actually think the Stamps have a chance to win it this year. Not because of their amazing offense, but because of their defense and how it has been a vast improvement over the past few seasons.
The last few playoff years, if the offense couldn't get it done the Stamps were screwed cause they couldnt stop a thing, they were brutal. This year however, they are a good unit. They allowed the second fewest points in the league IIRC, and theyve been able to make the big play which was not the case in years past.
You know the Lions will get their shots at Burris just cause their front 7 are so good, so if 'Frank' is playing today we can at least have faith that the D can make some big plays and keep them in the game.
Also, Buono teams always seem to have motivation problems when the playoffs come around. Just look at the Stamps in the 90s - they were the class of the league. But how many Grey Cups did they win for all those great seasons, only 2. (although they did have a miracle GC win in `01 as well, with the great Marcus Crandell at the helm). And in this decade, his lions have arguably been one of the perennial top teams in the league, and they only have 1 GC to speak of.
I think the Stamps will pull this one out in a close one.
Stamps 28 Lions 24

They won in 2000 and 2006....so that would be 2 in the decade. I know that you were talking about the Buono era, but I just had to point that they're won 2, tied for most titles in this decade.

Geeez, the stamps are playing BRUTAL!
No defence at all, the BC O is marching the ball down our throats. Lucky its only 2 FGs.
Any our O is non-existent, and penalties aren't helping.
Lets go Stamps, common!

^^^ I wouldn't say brutal, but yeah slow and rusty. Week off can do that to you.
Need to focus and turn up the intensity a little. Should come as the game gets going. Same thing happened to Montreal today and they were able to weather it for the win.

I hope you are right.
The announcers are sure Anti-Calgary. Talking about Burris' troubles in the post season in the past. Talking about Calgary having to win for a 4th time, and its not likely to win 4 times in a row. Talking about BC backing down in the past, but they WONT today.
But so far, their O is having their way with us. Rushes for first downs, passing for first downs. Just too many soft spots in the Calgary defence right now. BC just keeps the chains moving.
And our offense isn't doing anything to keep our struggling D off the field. Ugh, this is frustrating so far. Lets go Stamps!
Edit: Another long BC drive stalled at for a FG. We are getting lucky. It could easily be Lions by 21, rather than Lions by 9. Time to put together a drive of our own.
