Default Canon DSLR question

I have an old Canon EOS 3000 35mm camera that I haven't used in quite a while and have a couple good lenses for it. It looks like I am in the market for a new digital camera and was thinking of buying a Canon DSLR body and using my old lenses with it.

I'm guessing my lenses will work no problem, but I wanted to check here to make sure.

Also, is this a good deal?

Thanks

I have an XTi I bought for $700 a year+ ago so it sounds about right.

For the lenses make sure the mount is the same and also understand whatever the length of the lens is will be 50% higher. If you have say a 50mm lens it'll end up as 75mm due to the magnification factor of digital cameras.

See this link http://www.dcresource.com/faq/faq.html
and look for the question What is the focal length conversion ratio (or crop factor) on a digital SLR?

This is also an interesting link: http://theonlinephotographer.blogspo...great-for.html

I'd say go to Saneal, Vistek, or the Camera Store with your lenses and ask for their advice. They might even let you try your lenses on the camera to see what the difference is.

Which lenses do you have? For the most part EF lenses will still work, unless you get into some of the older ones.

They are EF lenses.

After a call to Saneal it turns out they will work with no problem. The multiplication factor as mentioned by FF stills boggles my mind however.

Thanks the for replys.

The photo sensor on MOST DSLRs (especially cheaper ones) is actually smaller than 35mm, therefore when you take the pictures, it looks more zoomed in, because some of the picture that would have got on a 35mm film gets cropped off by the photo sensor(s).

So, 50mm doesn't become 75mm, it becomes 75mm equivalent (I don't know the exact percentage difference is - as it could easily vary form camera to camera)

The crop factor on the Canon dSLRs is 1.6x. Canon does have full frame cameras, but only on the 5D models and better. The 5D cost around $2K for the body only, although it may drop in price as the 5D mark II hit the market recently.
