I tried to do Crazy on You on Guitar Hero and was booed off the stage. I didn't even know you could get booed off the stage in that game. My first and last attempt at it.

Awesome pick. The Wilson sisters are incredibly talented and Heart has always been in my list of favourite bands.

heh this reminded me of south park, and Randy Marsh playing a song on a real guitar and then failing miserably when trying it on guitar hero

I can't access youtube at work. Should I still post my pick, or wait until I get home?

I would say do it now then update it when you get home. It would keep the draft moving along. But that's just me.

Maybe do as much of your pick as you can now, and fill in the gaps later.

With the 22nd overall selection, in the 1986-1990 category, The Rubes selects A Tribe Called Quest - "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm".

While not best-selling or even best reviewed album put out by the group, their debut album was seen as an integral part of the hip-hop movement of the late 80s. ATCQ's use of sampling on this album was seen as innovative and would become a cornerstone of hip-hop.

The lyrics on this album were also seen as dramatically different than the majority of the rap/hip-hop scene at the time, as Quest went for a more humourous and wittier approach than the more violent or politically-themed lyrics of the scene.

Tracks -

1. Push it Along
2. Luck of Lucien
3. After Hours
4. Foot Prints
5. I Left My Wallet in El Segundo
6. Pubic Enemy
7. Bonita Applebum
8. Can I Kick It?
9. Youthful Expression
10. Rhythm (Devoted to the Art of Moving Butts)
11. Mr. Muhammad
12. Ham 'n' Eggs
13. Go Ahead in the Rain
14. Description of a Fool

"Push it Along"

"Luck of Lucien"

"Can I Kick It?"

"Footprints"

Excellent - I have always wanted to hear more from this band. I first became interested from the soundtrack to the Spike Lee movie Get On The Bus.

I adore Heart.

You guys are causing me to rethink my draft strategy. Maybe I will go into share the hidden gems mode too.

I am really happy about the feedback over choosing Heart. I thought I would catch some grief for that one. I do from most of my friends.

I never get tired of Heart. I'm not a huge fan of some of the newer songs, but with the classic lineup you can't go wrong.

Ann has the best female rock voice of all time.

I mean...come on....

and...puh-leeeeeze!

I'm probably in love with both of them.

Yeah, they've got some great tunes. And this is coming from someone who isn't even a huge hip-hop fan. Added some Tribe vids to my post.

Like Ro I have decided to move away from my safe zone and delve a little deeper. I was poised to select my favourite album of all time, a choice that would have been seen as safe, boring, and probably predictable too. Given the selections so far that simply will not do now.

So without further ado "The British Invasion" are delighted to select for Album 1981-1985 the self-titled first album by arguably the definitive British band of the Eighties,

The Smiths

The Smiths were a very interesting band, combining melodic and catchy music with powerful and disturbing lyrics about unconventional and controversial subjects. There's no denying the profound influence that the band had on British rock over the next decade though. Quite honestly, I don't beleive I truly appreciated this band when they first came on the scene in the UK. i thought them a little weird and out there. It was only later looking back that I came to understand and enjoy their music.

WIKI:

The Smiths is the debut album by English alternative rock band The Smiths, released on February 20, 1984. The album was well received by the critics as well as the public, and it established The Smiths as a prominent band in the 1980s music scene in the United Kingdom.
In 1989, the album was ranked number 22 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s. In 2003, the album was ranked number 481 on that magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Track listing

  1. "Reel Around the Fountain" – 5:58
  2. "You've Got Everything Now" – 3:59
  3. "Miserable Lie" – 4:29
  4. "Pretty Girls Make Graves" – 3:42
  5. "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" – 4:38
  6. "This Charming Man" – 2:43
    • Originally not released on UK and European issues of the album
  7. "Still Ill" – 3:23
  8. "Hand in Glove" – 3:25
  9. "What Difference Does It Make?" – 3:51
  10. "I Don't Owe You Anything" – 4:05
  11. "Suffer Little Children" – 5:28

What Difference Does It Make?

This Charming Man

Hand In Glove:

Not much time to elaborate, but Team Anal Bum Cover would like to select, in the Live Album category, Queen's Live At Wembley '86.

Excellent Jagger - I love the Smiths. Glad to See Marr is now part of Modest Mouse.

Flamesguy_SJ, great team name (SNL Jeopardy). I really like Queen Live Killers (Jazz tour). Freddie's banter between songs is always hilarious.

Second Round! There is already half a dozen cds I want to pick up from the first round.
