Sorry the small delay!

First, some housekeeping- I would like to move Mary Poppins to fantasy, and move School of Rock Back to Musical...

Secondly, for round 18 pick, I would like to take (in the newly opened Wildcard #1 category): Goldeneye.

This was the first Bond movie with Brosnan, and despite being super cheesy in certain ways, was one of the better Bond films. With Quantum of Solace coming to theatres, I think this is a good pick right about now. I chose it over other excellent Bond films because this is one of the first I saw, and in some ways might have saved the franchise from death. Of course, then they ruined it with Lucy Lui and Halle Berry (yes she's hot but what they did in that movie with the Bond theme was trash). Goldeneye was the best Brosnan Bond film, and one of the best Bond films. Plus it spawned Goldeneye for N64, which revolutionized my videogame experience!

Yesterday, I was walking through TD Square and they were putting up the Christmas decorations and it inspired my next pick in the movie draft. With the third Wildcard pick, Team MissTeeks is happy to select, the greatest Christmas movie ever (at least in my family) Christmas Vacation!

This movie is a tradition in my house at Christmas, we watch it every year and every year I laugh as much as ever. Chevy Chase is always great as the bumbling Clark Griswold and no one can beat the disgusting Cousin Eddie played by Randy Quaid.

IMDB page:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097958/

Trailer:

Clips (hope they work, Youtube had removed most of the clips):

Opening scene:

Yum, turkey!

Squirrel scene

Clark loses his mind (best scene in the entire movie) Some NSFW language.

Quotes:

[Todd and Margo Chester, the Griswold's yuppie neighbors, appear]
Todd: Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.
Todd: You've got a lot of nerve talking to me like that Griswold.
Clark: I wasn't talking to you.
_______________

Clark: Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?
Eddie: Naw, I'm doing just fine, Clark.
_______________

Eddie: I don't know if I oughta go sailin' down no hill with nothin' between the ground and my brains but a piece of government plastic.
Clark: Do you really think it matters, Eddie?
_______________

Ellen: Clark, I think it'd be best if everyone went home... before things get worse.
Clark: WORSE? How could things get any worse? Take a look around here, Ellen. We're at the threshold of hell.

I've gotten carried away again!

It's a tradition to watch that movie for my family as well, over the holidays. My family usually ends up watching it twice. We put it on once on Christmas eve and then everyone gets insanely drunk, so we end up putting it on again Christmas day. It's weird that it's one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly and it just doesn't get old. It's fantastic.

K.

This next selection will fulfill a few components that I feel are lacking on my team's roster as it stands. For starters, I wanted to have a new movie on my team - something released in the last year - to round it out. A Rookie, if you will; a movie that has yet to become entrenched in our movie culture consciousness, but one that will, given time, hopefully be remembered as being a great one. I also wanted to have a movie that features in whole or part the talents of the collective that comprise the Apatow Productions Clan - it of itself being a rather new entity. And, I have always liked Kevin Smith, and wanted to find a way to work him onto the list. So, without further ado:

In the Wildcard #2 slot, Sequel: Part 2 is pleased to select Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008).

In the CP thread dedicated to this movie I mentioned - before seeing it - that I was concerned that it would take the careers of two guys whose work I highly respect (Smith and Rogen) - for their ability to make me laugh and for their scriptwriting skillz - and run them completely into the ground; instead, I found the experience was quite the opposite. I feared Rogen was treading water by overplaying his shtick, and I hadn't seen anything good come out of the Smith camp for a few years (I thought Clerks II was awful), but this movie brilliantly combines the best things the two have to offer, and the result is a highly-endearing, hilarious, raunchy-but-touching triumph. I fell in love with this movie right away.

From Rogen, we get the strength of performance he brought to his first leading role in Knocked Up, where he first capably made something meaningful of a role about a deadbeat stoner who proves he isn't totally valueless; this role was a vanguard for a different ilk of Hollywood stars who really shone in 2007 (Shia Laboeuf being another example) - dudes who don't bring any Brad Pitt cachet to the table but are looked at as Leading Men nonetheless. Some people wrote off Knocked Up as absurd - what sensible white collar working would ever have relations with an eff-up like Seth Rogen?? - but I loved it; for a change, a guy we can all relate to on some level or other has the main role and gets the Hollywood Ending. In Zack and Miri, Rogen ups the ante in a more romantic leading role; once again, he's an eff-up who despite his shortcomings still has a chance with a hot girl, but there are fewer distractions - for example, it makes me laugh but I do get tired of Seth Rogen's pro-pot crusading, which I thought really ruined the fun in Pineapple Express - and the movie focuses more on the going-straight storyline (which, of course, is cleverly subverted).

This is where Kevin Smith comes in - Smith, who made his name with great dialogue and quirky, profane working-class (and geeky) characters. He has made the foray into softer territory before, with disappointing results, but I think the great achievement - and self-discovery - he has here is to see that you can bring the profanity into the mix and still make an effective chick flick. (I have decided to term this movie the first 'dick flick' - look at the sappy theme about making friends in the world that Smith outright slaps you in the face with at the end, and the way he populates his supporting cast with vulgar characters like Craig Delaney and a real-life pornstar in Traci Lords; this is subversion at its finest.) Smith as at the absolute top of his writing game with this script - it's early, and time will always tell, but I think it may be his best. No small feat.

I must also give great credit to the adorable Elizabeth Banks, who is pitch-perfect in the other lead role as a fitting foil to Rogen, and the rest of the supporting cast - Justin Long fanastic in a cameo, Jason Mewes great in (finally!) a role where his character's name isn't Jay, Jeff Anderson also funny - who are all excellent.

Despite effectively tugging at my heart strings at times, this movie succeeds most for just being really, really funny. Some of the exchanges between Robinson and Rogen had me nearly rolling in the aisle.

It's getting to the time of year when all the Big Oscar Juggernauts start rolling out, but, as usual, I find myself leaning towards another mainstream popcorn flick as one of the best of the year. It may seem like an obvious choice for the Draft in many ways, but I am extremely happy to have the chance to add this movie to my team.

Very late pick. Sorry. First off, I will move Cube to a wildcard slot, and select, in sci-fi.....TRON

Can't believe this is still around. Sweet. Figured with this crowd it'd be long gone. Anyways, loved this movie as a kid. Awesome 1982 effects, Sark freaked me out as a kid, as did the Master Control Program. Not much more to add. Classic Sci-Fi

Light Bike Scene

Pretty good remade trailer

IJAFW are not exactly happy to select this next movie but it's necessary. A movie draft without this particular movie is not much of a draft at all.

We'll take another wildcard spot here and select the Ed Wood 'masterpiece', a movie unfairly dubbed the worst movie of all time by many.......
PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE

WIKI:

Plan 9 from Outer Space is a 1959 science fiction/horror film written, produced, and directed by Edward D. Wood, Jr.. The film stars Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Tor Johnson and Maila "Vampira" Nurmi. The film also claims to posthumously star Bela Lugosi through use of archive footage and a brief scene of the actor shot by Wood just before Lugosi's death in 1956, although Lugosi's character is primarily portrayed by chiropractor Tom Mason.

The plot of the film is focused on a race of extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. In the course of doing so, the aliens implement "Plan 9", a scheme to resurrect Earth's dead as zombies to get the planet's attention, causing chaos.

Because of its script, acting, special effects, and multiple production errors visible in the final version of the film, Plan 9 from Outer Space is often regarded as a leading candidate for the title of "worst movie ever made". It has also earned Wood a posthumous Golden Turkey Award as the worst director ever.

Anybody that has yet to see this classic really has to do so at their earliest opportunity. It's fantastically bad and hysterically funny in it's own way!

I've got 2, but I had a list of about 6 this weekend. One of them was picked (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and the other 3 I have forgotten.

Believe it or not, I was going to make a list of the worst movies in the said categories, and this was going to be my black and white pick. Congrats for selecting it... LOL.

I simply had to take this one. It's bad, really really bad but so bad it's actually good.

If it helps jog your memory, we had a discussion after HD picked "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", about his choice inspiring me for my next Wildcard pick.
