yup, just slower data rate then 3g.
If there's no Edge, then sometime it'll go down to GPRS (shows up as a dot on the iphone screen) which i believe is even slower then Edge.

I think the problem is that whatever timeserver runs the Edge network has not been updated to reflect the "new" DST switchover date implemented last year, and switched itself back last weekend.

If I jailbreak will this allow me to do that?

Yup you need to jailbreak it.. Once you do that I think you can copy a new audio file overtop the existing one, it has to have the same name.
Never done it though.

Oh, now that is tempting. I haven't even really considered jailbreaking mine yet, but I've definitely wanted custom text alerts.

If I activate my browser and access a website BEFORE the wi-fi icon shows on the top of my screen, does it use 3G and count against my download amount?

Yup it would... I don't even know how accurate that icon display is, if I didn't have the 6GB plan and was paying for data I for sure wouldn't reply on that, I'd be disabling data through 3G or Edge manually.

Yesterday I was on the Internet and my iPhone locked up on me. Nothing I did would have any result until I rebooted it. I'd touch the screen, nothing. I'd flip it over and the image would not reorientate itself to a different screen position. Has this happened to anyone else here? If it happens again, what should I do? Do I just turn it off by the on-off button?

Yeah I've had that happen a few times.. you can tell it's coming when the keyboard in the browser becomes VERY unresponsive, like 4 seconds between keypress and response.
Best case the Safari will just crash, worst case the phone is kind of borked until you reboot it.
It's a lot better than when it first launched, but still a far cry from "just works".

Is rebooting the only/best cure?

As far as I know yeah.
Which I guess I shouldn't complain much, I think the last 3-4 phones I've owned there's been times I've had to go so far as removing the battery to reboot the phone.

quick question, don't know if this is listed in the application thread.
I want a program that will allow me to open it and then auto sign into wifi networks. I don't want to have to manually type in the password everytime. Any ideas?

Is it the same network? My phone just connects with my wifi at home without having to enter the password. As soon as I've entered it once, it stays.

The university wireless is like this ... it'll boot you out after a certain number of hours and it's annoying as sin. I haven't found a reasonable work-around for this. There's 1password, which will do what you're asking, but I didn't like it because when you use it you're using the browser through that application (the layout isn't the same as safari).

It was horrible today. No Internet on the bus all the way home. It was like I was living in 2007.

After 2 years of being an iPod touch/iPhone user, I learned something new. When in safari, you can tap the status bar to jump back to the top of the page. Pretty handy when surfing CP.
