Not sure if anybody watches this show or not, but in tonight's episode, a little girl is diagnosed with Rasmussen's Encephalitis.

It is 'a rare progressive neurological disorder, characterized by frequent and severe seizures, loss of motor skills and speech, hemiparesis (paralysis on one side of the body), encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), dementia, and mental deterioration. '

It's fixed with the removal of that section of the brain, most times, this results in the patient losing HALF of their brain!

This is worth mentioning (in my opinion at least) as this is the disease that my grandfather Dr. Theodore Rasmussen discovered.

Sorry for the randomness, just thought I'd share!

That's pretty cool. I was in disbelief whilst watching the show (which by the way I think is pretty good, not usually into hospital dramas) when they said that the missing side of the brain gets filled up with spinal fluid!!! What so you just walk around sloshing fluid aroundon that side of your head?!!
Crazy.
Anyway, just think of what you could've accomplished with your genes if you didn't spend all your time on the Puck!!

Why would they need to remove half the brain? I thought that in situations like this (hemisphereoctamy is used for other conditions/medical reasons), they could just disconnect one side from the other.

That's actually really cool.

Good show, too. Katherine Heigl is hot.
