I have had that happen to my PVR a few times. Call up shaw and they will reset your box to bring back the PVR functionality. It usually occurs when automatic programming of the PVR fails, or there is some kind of a power bump (or so I was told).

Yeah a new firmware came out this week. On old models something has been removed.

I thought I was losing it for a bit. My Harmony 880 was setup for a whole bunch of commands that don't work with my 6200 PVR anymore. I used to hit Guide-Guide-PVR to get to my recorded shows but now that gets me into some hourly listing for a single channel only.
I didn't get the message about updated firmware so I was doing a whole lot of troubleshooting for nothing.
Thanks Shaw. You stay awesome...

Yeah, I've been a little baffled by the random changes they made.

Not sure if anybody has this issue, but now my page up and down buttons make my recordings go ahead and back 5 minutes. Years ago the up made it skip 30 seconds and the back brought it back 15 seconds. In my opinion this is ideal. Then they mysteriously got rid of the ability to go forward but kept the back. Now it seems they've brought the forward skip back, but upped the interval to 5 freaking minutes each way. What the hell are you trying to do to me shaw?

Interesting find.
When they changed the Page Up and Down buttons from the 30 second skip, I spent months trying to figure out what I did wrong to change the way those buttons worked. I even remapped the buttons, but then that screwed up the functionality of those buttons when you did want to actually scroll through pages.
I could see the five minute skip being useful occasionally.
I don't like that when a show ends now, it just sits on the Pause screen and you have to hit "Stop" to get the delete or save option. They probably got complaints from too many people who accidentally hit OK and deleted a show they wanted to keep.
One good thing I did discover: Now, if you accidentally hit one of the Shaw on Demand buttons (which I do at least once a month), hitting the Exit button will actually stop it from going to Shaw on Demand. That annoyed me greatly because your whole system basically froze for 30 seconds while it was connecting, then you had to exit from the On Demand screens, and it wouldn't take you back to the channel you were on before.

Really? so that's what that was! Firstly, I really like the auto pause feature. I'm constantly taping while watching a show. Nothing would annoy me more when I finish watching a taped show and it automatically boots me to live tv and I see something from the last 5 minutes of the show I'm taping. It always seems to happen when something big is happening like a character is being killed or something. I'm a bit of a spoiler whore, so I'm sensitive to things like that.
Did they really get rid of the shaw on demand lag? That's awesome news. I hated the minute or so you knew you were going to have once you accidentally hit that button.
The 5 minute jump is useful in certain occasions but not too much in my opinion. There was a good reason to have the forward and back set to different intervals. When it was 30 seconds/15 seconds you could hit it to jump through commercials and then when you inevitably went too far you could jump back only a bit and get a good target for when the show was resuming. Now that they are even if you jump ahead into your show and hit the back button the timeline just pops back to where you were originally. That and the fact that most commercial breaks are only 3-4 minutes long this feature is broken to me.
I wish there was a way you could set the intervals.

They still have the 30 second skip and 15 second jump back.
On the left side of the remote, under the volume controls, the first button below the volume is "MUTE", then the next one is a grey button with the word "SKIP" above it - that's the 30 second skip, and the one below it with the counter-clockwise arrow, is the 15 second jump back. Those are definitely the most valuable PVR features of all.

I looked last night and you are correct, the arrow button works again (since the last big firmware change that button hasn't done anything). However I may have an older unit as I don't have a skip button. My hd pvr is one of the first ones they released. I wonder if I can just get a new remote? Ah well, 15 second back button is good enough for now. Thanks for the heads up!

It would have been nice if shaw had let us know a new firmware was coming down, but now that they've gotten rid of a lot of the "remote lag" I'm quite happy.

It's a great thing to know you aren't alone in this world. I've asked so many people if they have that problem and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. Remote lag is (hopefully was) one of my biggest issues with my shaw set-up.
I agree, why not send us a message like they do with notification of channel trials?
