Kermit- what all have you done for troubleshooting?
- You say you are in a condo; is anybody else having the same problem?
- If not, what happens if you take your receiver over to their place? Or one of their receivers over to yours?
Really, there are only a few possibilities that would cause this:
- 91 dish and/or LNB being down- which would affect everybody in the building.
- You being hooked up incorrectly to the switches in the building causing you to only be able to see 82.
- Your receiver not being able to recognize the switch being used and being stuck on 82. (read: your receiver is broken)
So if your receiver works in another suite or theirs doesn't work in yours; it's the building management at fault.
If yours fails to work in another suite or your neighbour's works in your suite- your receiver is broken.
I know unhooking receivers isn't always fun, but in your case you may have to in order to see what the problem is. My experience with Bell's tech support is that they will follow their flowchart until they come to something that you haven't done; in this case the "no phone line." And the tech guy in India is just reading his script, and when he comes to that point he tells you that needs to be done, your ticket gets marked as "resolved", and because he gets paid on a per call basis he gets to move onto the next call because he has "fixed" yours.
Bell -love their programming. But for customer service; you are on your own.

Kermit, did you do a 'check switch'? If not, go to menu and press 6-1-1, and then choose 'check switch', otherwise follow Ken's advice.

Yeah I ran a check switch and it said I now had one less satellite than the previous saved information indicated, or something along those lines.
91 isn't coming in at all.
I called my property manager to ask if anyone else has reported the problem, but haven't heard back from them yet. They usually take a while to call me back.

OK.. so I got home today and 82 wasn't working!
I changed transponders on both and now everything is tickety boo. The CSR actually suggested the transponder change, so he was sort of useful.
YAY!

Did you change from odd to even? Or even to odd?
If so, your problem isn't "fixed." Channels live on certain transponders. For example Global Calgary is broadcast on Xponder 18, and Global Winnipeg is broadcast on Xponder 21.
So if I am right and you are getting a signal on just one of odd or even, then the power converter in your receiver is blown, because for odd Xponders your receiver outputs 13 volts, and for even Xponders it outputs 18 volts. When my 3100 died I could only get even for the longest time, then it went as well.

Well I'm not having any sort of issues right now. I've just checked a whole bunch of channels and things seem to be OK. Probably checked about 45 channels now.
I should also note that when I first checked the signal strength on 91 when bringing this issue up I was getting 0. When I got home today, before changing anything, I had 77%. I may have actually left 91 alone, I can't remember now.
Edit: after writing this, I was flipping in the HD channels and I'm not getting anything on 82 transponder 31.

For all the Bell 9242 users, Bell has downloaded new firmware, V183. This seems to have helped those using an ExternalHD. Not sure if it will help with audio dropouts.
Here's a link to the discussion.

Well, I have some good news!
I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico.
Other than that, the 9242 still treats my Archos like a big 80 GB photo storage device. Yipee!

My ExternalHD is working fine now! I'm actually impressed I thought it would take 2-3 years for it to be fixed

Any added features? Like being able to simply copy files from the 9242 to the HD? Or being able to move stuff back from the HD to the 9242?

Since day one I could move stuff back and forth between the two, but just one day it stopped working until now.
I don't notice anything different though. One feature I wish they would add is a "favorites" for items you search.

One new thing I noticed- the receiver doesn't go into sleep mode on its own anymore. (Yes, I had it disabled in the settings- didn't matter.)

As many of you Bell subscribers know, Bell has been replacing the cards in their receivers for a few months now. They have now enabled Nagravision 3 which has disabled all of the FTA boxes out there. So if you're a pirate, you'll have to repoint your dish to Charlie [DishNet] which will last maybe a couple of months until they complete their switch.
In this never ending game, I don't know how long until this new encryption is also cracked but for now it's a blow to the hobbyists.

First off, let's be clear that we can discuss the social impacts of piracy, but we cannot discuss actual how to's, etc.
That being said, I know first hand that Dish has already turned on Nagra 3. I was in the process of cancelling my Dish subscription so I never bothered swapping the card they sent me, and now the receiver has a message telling me that the new card is required to watch programming.

Point taken, I was trying to walk the line while pointing out the corner pirates have painted themselves into while I was trying to be neutral. I don't have any first hand experience with this except what I've seen others do. I was gaining my knowledge from this thread and post on Digital Home Canada. If Dish has turned on Nagra 3, the game appears to be over as I've also read they've been using Nagra 3 in Germany for a year with no hick ups.

Just so you know Vulcan- my post wasn't aimed at you. What I was trying to say was that as the discussion turns to piracy, it's one thing for us to discuss if pirates are working/not working. I just didn't want others seeing this as an open door to discuss satellite how to's.
Funny thing, my neighbour was hooking up satellites on the weekend and I asked if he needed any parts. (He did.) Turns out he went legit with Bell, and is now using his FTA receiver to receive actual FTA signals.
