Zack and Miri make a Porno
Anyone else excited to see this flick? All the reviews I've heard so far have been good and the Sun said it's Kevin Smiths best movie since Chasing Amy.
I for one will be hitting the theater sunday afternoon to catch it

Kevin Smith + Seth Rogan = Should be comedic gold. Could stink too.

Saw this movie over a month ago at the Calgary Film Festival. It's great!! Cross between Clerks 2 & Knocked Up, but with all the best of Kevin Smith's dialogue.

One review, just because I happened to read it recently:

(FYI the coast = the same as FFWD or similar in Calgary).

That's about all the recommendation I need. I saw clerks 2 about a year ago and couldn't believe how much I liked it.

That guy from the Coast is terrible. Not even sure why they have him around. Usually he reviews movies a week or two after they've started and half the time I think he looks at Rotten Tomatoes and simply goes against the prevailing opinion. End rant.
Ebert one of the last remaining true film critics who reviews a film on its merits and place in the genre gives it a 3 out of 4. I tend to find anything Ebert gives 3 or higher a great film and many of the ones he gives a 2 out of 4 are a decent nights entertainment even if they aren't memorable.

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno," as the title hints, is about Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) making a porno. "I don't know bleep about directing," Smith once confided to me. "But I'm a bleeping good writer."
He is. Since he likes to eat, I will describe him in food terms. He isn't a gourmet chef, supplying little nuggets of armadillo surrounded by microscopic carrots and curlicues of raspberry-avocado-mint juice. He's the kind of chef I've valued for a lifetime, the kind you see behind the ledge in a Formica diner, pulling down new orders from revolving clips. The kind of diner where the waitresses wear paper Legionnaire hats, pop their gum, and say, "What ya havin' today, hon?"
In Kevin Smith's fantasy diner, the waitresses at this joint strip naked and have noisy lesbian sex, and then Jose the busboy joins in the fun. They all scream loudly: "Bleep, you bleeping bleep! I bleep your bleep! Bleep! Bleep! I'm bleeping bleeping!"

It's running 65% on rotten tomatoes which I have a feeling is pretty darn good for a Kevin Smith film.

Pretty much agree with you on Ebert. It will be a sad day when he retires.
I'll will be checking this film out for sure. Havn't met a Smith movie I hated (including Jersey Girl), and so far Rogan has been a gold mine for entertainment.
Two warped minds working on a single movie? Oh hell yes. I'm all over this movie like a fat kid on a cupcake.

I appreciate his reviews.
In his latest blog entry he spells out his rules for reviewing, and there are some I wish other reviewers would take to heart. Especially:
Quote:
No matter what your opinion, every review should give some idea of what the reader would experience in actually seeing the film. In other words, if it is a Pauly Shore comedy, there are people who like them, and they should be able to discover in your review if the new one is down to their usual standard.
|
Hey I like some "dumb comedy" movies, and I hate when a critic does nothing beyond telling everyone that they would be an idiot to go to that movie. Ebert on the other hand seems to take a movie for what it is, and if it is a movie like Zack and Miri then to compare it to Citizen Kane would be crazy.

Jersey Girl is a well made movie that has a lot of very personal moments in it.
Most critics slammed it because it had Bennifer in it right at the same time Gigli came out and they broke up. Also, because it was not standard Smith fare (though I'd actually argue that it is very much a Smith movie).

I want to be excited for this movie but for some reason I am just not... anyone else feeling that? I will see it anyway because I know what to expect and it will be good for a few laughs, but - this being the 4th Seth Rogen movie to come out since last June for me the routine has lost a bit of its edge.
Will be nice to see Jason Mewes get some screen time, that guy cracks me up.

Yep, the look on the little girl's face at the end when Affleck surprises her during her performance will make even the toughest mans man a little weak. Very cute moment for sure.

Saw it this afternoon. Not bad, though I didn't like it as much as Clerks 2. The fiancee laughed her ass of though

Although I like him, I'm not as big on Kevin Smith movies as most, so I didnt have much expectations going into this one. I thought it was hilarious! Even the girl liked it, which I was surprised about. No matter how gross and profanity-filled Kevin Smith movies tend to be, he always manages to put a nice, complete story in them. This one was no different.
