Default Music Draft #2 Workshop - Albums

Anyone interested in some kind of album draft? GS is busy enough, so perhaps a few of us can manage it.

This is just a suggestion, so all ideas/variations are welcome. These drafts seem to work well with 15-20 rounds, and maybe 20 GMs. Maybe the album is dead in the iTunes age, but I'm always looking for some new gems to add to the collection.

Album 1981-1985
Album 1986-1990
Album 1991-1993
Album 1994-1996
Album 1997-1999
Album 2000-2002
Album 2003-2005
Album 2006-2008

Album - Jazz
Album - Blues
Album - Rock
Album - Rap/Hip-hop
Album - Folk, Country and Western
Album - Electronica/Techno
Album - Metal
Album - Punk

Album - Live
Album - Soundtrack
Album - Greatest Hits/Compilation
Album - wildcard

Post your suggestions, and whether you would like to be a GM. If you do want to be a GM, please make sure you will be reasonably available to make your picks, and that you can list 20 albums.

I would be happy to help administer it, but there are about 5 of those categories that I know absolutely zilch about.

What the heck, count me in. Although Youtube is blocked for me at work, so I couldn't link anything until later.

Can you do a linkable spreadsheet to keep track of the picks? You're hired!

Hmmm this one looks like it will be a lot of fun. Much simpler than the last music draft (no offence intended), and much faster to pick for.

Plus, I've always been an album-oriented guy. The whole "hit singles" thing irks me to no end. More killer, less filler imo!

I'm down.

New rule - you can't pick the same artist more than once in the draft. You could take an artist that went solo from a band you picked.

I can do the hosted-spreadsheet thing, too, if you need.

Just to clerify, if you take Britney Spears in the 1990's album catagory, you can't select Britney Spears again. But FanIn80 could take a Britney Spears album in the 2000s, right?

Also, what are your thoughts on a "No Celine Dion" rule?

Yes. Other GMs could pick the same artist. I hope this doesn't become a Metallica/Foo Fighters/Soundgarden fest. Nothing against those bands, but I'm hoping we expose some lesser known albums. Should we say an artist/band can only be picked once, by all GMs?

That would depend upon how many GMs there are.

While I share your sentiment with the Metallica (etc) thing, there are some bands whose careers span over 20 albums, with quite a few of them being capable of being anyone's favourite album from an era.

In this type draft, I think it would be too limiting. I think the number of categories we have, combined with the "one instance of a band/artist per team" rule, will suffice in spreading things out.

no, too limiting.

and just to clarify, you have the album categories for years listed. for the other categories:

Album - Jazz
Album - Blues
Album - Rock
Album - Rap/Hip-hop
Album - Folk, Country and Western
Album - Electronica/Techno
Album - Metal
Album - Punk

Album - Live
Album - Soundtrack
Album - Greatest Hits/Compilation
Album - wildcard

Is there a year stigma attached to these? Are are these wide open to the 60's, etc?

Good question - I think those headings should be wide open. This way we can have a mix of new and classic music.
