If you are getting all 4 yanked at once, it could be. Are they actually in properly? The only thing worth mentioning is that all 4 of my wisdom teeth came in perfectly. If they are compacted, or whatever the term is, or came in crooked or anything that involves them having to dig around to get them out, the cost could easily be more. Buddy had both of mine out in under 10 mins.

So you didnt even go under when you were getting them out? Seems to me like it's a pretty major procedure no? I have a pretty strong gag-reflex (really don't like foreign objects in my mouth...i would make a horrible gay man), and think i would rather just be put under.

No, it's not really. No idea what your situation is like but like I said, mine were in perfectly. Only reason I had them out was one broke and the other had a decent cavity forming in it and I didn't really use either teeth. When I went to the dentist the first time I did ask about sedation (the type you hear on the radio doesn't involve you being put to sleep like a regular surgery) and my Dentist heavliy advised against it as most dentists don't have a crash cart. Not to mention, the procedure (for me anyways) is so quick and easy that there isn't really any point. She told me that if I wanted to be put under, she would need to call in an anithesiologist (sp?) and that would cost at least a grand, on top of the actual procedure.
Based on what I have read on Sedation Dentists website, you aren't really being "knocked out" instead you are given a bunch of drugs that seem to just stop your brain from recording for an hour or so.
All I took was Adavan for my nerves (HATE Dentists) and I was fine. To be honest, even on that stuff you seem to forget a good chunk of the day. I did.
I guess the main question to ask, other than your gag reflex, does going to the dentist worry you?

Have the wisdom teeth come in, or are they still in the gums? If they are in its a fairly minor thing to have em yanked (see GoinAllTheWay' post). If they are in the gums, it becomes a little more time consuming. Either way all you need is some nitrous oxide and a butt-load of freezing.

I know you said the North but I have to mention Dr. S. Charchuk from the Chinook Mall Family Dental Clinic, he's absolutely amazing, another thing if you can't afford it he'll work with you to come up with something, just amazing.

I absolutely recommend Friends and Family Dental Health for SE Calgary. My whole family goes there, especially because they are great with our kids. We are always on time, every thing is explained clearly and carefully, and the needles are totally painless. It was hard finding a good dentist in Calgary, but now we are so happy. Google them for sure..

Old thread I know, but looking for some updated recommendations for dentists in the south. We had some issues with the one we've been going to for years and now looking to find a good, new one.
Preferably one that cares about your oral health at least as much as padding their bank account.

I highly recommend Dr. Michael Zuk in Red Deer. If you pass away he can clone you from one of your teeth. Can't beat that!

If you're deep South try Dr. Morley Lee in Sunpark. Can't remember the clinic name but it's right by the AHS outpatient and lab. He is good and apparently only charges by fee guide because other dentists always seemed to nickel and dime extra charges despite my plan covering 100%. Been going to him for about 5 years now and haven't paid a penny out of pocket and no complaints whatsoever on the dental work.

My family and I go to Dr. Wong in Chinook mall. Been going there for 20+ years. It's not a fancy office or anything. You'll hear stories of offices that have TV's on every way, with signed memorabilia, exotic fish, and other crap bragging how much money they have. Well this isn't like any of those. It's well below what the Alberta insurance fee guide is, so you aren't getting screwed on your visits. I work in Health Insurance, and know who's charging more than they should.

Downtownish...Gene Dalla Lana
The man took a day off from vacation to do my root canal...and told his staff he would do it all himself so that their vacation wouldn't be messed up.
Can't recommend more highly, from the clerical staff to the hygiene folks to Gene himself.
