Exclamation Searching Within Files in Network Location (How?)

This is for my company pc... and I was able to do this with Google Desktop on my XP Pro 32-bit computer before I had to upgrad, but now I'm unable to.

I need to search my company networked drive and within the excel files and other files such as pdf's through the same search. My problem however is that I am now running Vista 64-bit and google desktop isn't available for 64. The indexing built into vista search doesn't do network locations.

I've googled with no leads. So does anyone know how I can do this? Are there any other programs out there that can let me search within files on a network location on vista 64-bit?

With Vista64 you can install 32 bit programs, you just right click on the setup file and there is an option to run as a 32 bit program.

Google Desktop is a no go using that option.

I used to use Microsoft's search across mapped network drives.
And I just tried mapping a drive and in the Properties tab it says it will index.

Did you use it on 64-bit and did it successfully search within files or just the names?

I've went into the drive properties and the index option was already checked... however, if I go into Indexing Options in the Control Panel, any network drive doesn't show up in the possible options to index. Googles searches confirms that Vista x64 doesn't allow indexing of mapped or network drives.

So at this point, I'm willing to purchase additional software to give me that function. I just don't know of any.

And it continues... my plotter doesn't have Vista drivers available for it... unsupported due to age. Crikey!

I had problems with the indexing with the /force switch and the latest version... but I see the article mentions the old version and included a download link, so I got 5.1.706.29690 and installed it... working fine.

Thanks Bobblehead.
