Hardcore? Wisdom teeth is nothing compared to getting in-grown toe nails operated on with minimal freezing agent.

Anyways... you might feel a little pain after, but it shouldn't be much. Just remember that you have holes now and not to chew in that area for a while. It will take some time to get used to the empty feeling, maybe a week.
I had all 4 of mine removed at once, with needles, didn't go under for it. Was bleeding for about 2 hours after, painkillers took all the pain away and my staple was soup for a few days. Then I started eating solids and within a week everything was normal again. Besides that, life was normal, just eating was affected.

Pain... lots of pain.

j/k
Honestly, for me it wasn't too bad. Although I can't believe you're here on CP!! Man, I slept soundly, and for a nice long while after I got home! (Thanks to the nice effects of the anaesthetic, and lovely painkillers, lol)

Best advice to you: ice. And lots of it. It helps numb the pain, keeps the swelling down, and helps prevent any bruising. I'd say that's the most important thing. But I'm sure they've already told you that.

My mouth was really quite sensitive for a while... hot and cold liquids were a no-no for me at first. But that stage passed rather quickly. Have someone go out and get you some shakes from Peter's (But don't use the straw! Use a spoon). I didn't go back to eating solids for quite a while though.

Cleanse often and well. Swelling and bruising vary from one individual to the next, so hopefully it won't be too bad for you.

I'm really trying to think back to how it was... but nothing really sticks out. The first day or two were a little rough, but pretty much nothing noteworthy. Nothing to worry about. Feeling the gaping holes at the back of your mouth is a little (or a lot) strange, but once your mouth starts becoming less sensitive, you just get used to it.

I got mine out about 3 years ago.. I was given valium and demerol for mine and it was fantastic.. Narcotics rule! Anyways, I'm given the drugs and a few minutes later the doctor comes in.
Doc: "How are you doing Daniel?"
Me: "Oh good, I am a bit concerned about the ceiling being red and moving that way."
Doc: "That's just you."
Me: "Oh okay!"
Doc: "Close your eyes Daniel."
Doc: "No, close them."
Doc: "Keep them closed!"
Me: "Oh, okay!"
Me (thoughts): "What the hell is going on here? What kind of an oral surgons office is this if the've got construction going on in the room next to me! This is so rude! Gad I'm p*ssed, they've got a freakin saw going on over there!"

20 minutes later I was done, the "construction" was the teeth coming out..
In my infinite wisdom, I managed to plan a barbeque for the day after my surgury, needless to say it took me a REALLY long time to eat my steak, but I did!

I remember waking up out of the best dream of my life, and then feeling normal right after. They had a nurse come down with me after, which is good because as soon as the elevator started to move I just fell down because of the blood loss or something like that.

Really no pain occured with me, which actually might be a bad thing because the jackass nicked a nerve or something and I still have reduced feeling in my jaw as a result. Better than what he did with my sister in nicking an artery resulting in a nice old hospital trip.

It depends. If they popped right out and the dental surgeon did them with you "awake" you can expect some pain, swelling and jaw soreness. If you are like me and the dental surgeon took one look at the x-rays and said "there's no way I'm doing this unless you are under general anesthetic" and then took over 2 hours in the OR removing them (he had to cut two into 3 different sections to get them out) you can expect more pain.

Seriously it will hurt but usually over the counter drugs will keep you in decent comfort. It will hurt like hell when the freezing starts to come out though.

After that take it easy. Eat soup and, as much as you can, exercise your jaw or you may find those burgers you used to be able to get your mouth around are too big to eat a year from now. There is also a possibility that depending on how much they had to wrench your jaw open you may get some "clicking" in the jaw from here on in or occassional shooting pains in your jaw that locks it up for a few minutes to an hour. I have the last two side-effects of the surgery though I only get the pains a few times a year and they frequency and intensity seems to be decreasing as time goes on (when I got them out 10 years ago it happened nearly every couple of weeks now it's rare). But I'm sure the dental surgeon gave you a sheet of all those side effects before doing the surgery

I am still kinda doped up don't worry. I wasn't tired when I originally got home but I am getting more and more tired as time goes on.

I think I'll go for a little nap now, a LONG nap and dream of all the CPers who have to work today muahaha.

I'll second that. Early and cold will greatly impact the amount of swelling. I had a wierd side effect. Something happened with a nerve that caused me to have a totaly numb chin for about a week.

I think numbness is a common side effect, due to the teeth's proximity to the nerves. However, they also froze my mouth so that is why it is numb for me.

I had mine done while I was awake too... just needles no freezing

The pain wasn't too bad, but mine bleed for about 4 days

It was about a week before I was eating totally normal again

best advice i can give is keep the area clean... if you food stuck in there for a few days it can get pretty funky and it won't heal as well .. if you dentist didn't give you one make sure you get an empty syringe to fill with water to squirt any chunkies out

Gnaw on teabags, they have a little more flavour than the cotton balls they jam down your throat to control the bleeding.

I drank a bunch of vodka when I had mine done. Killed the pain AND disinfected the craters in my mouth.

I've had that done but the only thing was that it took 6 injections in my big toe to freeze the nail bed. Nothing like needles in your feet, eh?

I had them put me under when I had my wisdom teeth out all at once. Nothing quite like counting back from 100, reaching 96 and then being shaken awake with a numb, bloody mouth.

My brother did that. Jammed in 4, one for each tooth.

Bad thing to watch out for. Blood clots easily into the teabag, and they became stuck in my brother's mouth. Removing them was too painful. Of course, 4 teabags worth of caffeine jammed in your mouth keeps you up all night, in agony.

Next day he goes into the oral surgeon. He takes a pair of forceps and yanks them out. Then jabs a cauterizing probe in to staunch the bleeding.

My brother still can't tell that story.... O_o

I am not allowed to drink alcohol for a few days so it doesn't react with the IV stuff that knocked me out.... or so they claim. But I doubt I'll test that idea.

I still have the lower jaw frozen but I can feel it coming out. I've been drinking ice water and holding it on the back of my mouth till it warms up. Seems to help a bit. Gonna try and eat a smootie or some drinkable yogurt, maybe a milkshake or jello at some point today.

Anyone think of any other foods that are soft, and don't require chewing or even feeling your mouth to eat?

I might not do the tea bag thing because I wanna sleep. But what is the benefit of tea bags other than they taste?

Well all sorts of foods can be thrown in the food processor and blended into a liquid or paste. The options are endless if you own one.

Holy shinguard....i had the same thing. Three needles in each big toe.....pain. right into the knuckle. And then the doctor held the scalpel in one hand and the "how to" book in the other.....he sliced the outside thirds of each nail, pulled out the ingrown part with plyers, and then peeled back the skin to scrape the nail bed so the nail on the sides would not grow back. I am left with the middle third growing. My toes look fata'd up. I am not a big fan of wearing open toed sandles to say the least.....but they don't hurt anymore.

Pulled teeth....my wisdom tooth came out with zero problem (no bone breaking and yanking). I think this is why there was minimal swelling and pain afterward.
