Default Health drinks

I went to the organic market today and got this aesthetic little bottle of juice called "M13 Functional Juice". It was like $4 for a surprisingly small amount but I just had to know.

Tasted pretty good.

Then I noticed it had 13333% of my recommended daily intake of vitamin B6. Is that a good thing?! It also had something like 500%+ my recommended daily intake of B12 and 333% of the RDI for Vitamin C (which I know can make you ill if you take too much.) Who recommends these numbers and who would think to themselves well I need over 10 thousand times what those people recommended.

I did feel a little nauseated later in the day but it may have been a little dehydration. It passed.

In any case, health drinks. Vitamin-enhanced water. Is this a clever ploy or is that futuristic food like the Jetsons imagined really upon us? They're damned expensive.

And I do like my Clif bars.

As I understand it, and I am no vitamin nut, Vitamin C is water soluable, which means it is really hard to take too much. Whatever your body doesn't immediately need you pee out, so it doesn't store any of it. This is why you need to have a consistant source of it.

I can imagine that taking a huge amount of it might be damaging, like 50X RDI or soemthing, but 333% is nothing. A small glass of OJ has 100% of your daily intake, and I don't see no warning labels!

A huge amount of anything isn't good for you.

Multi-vitamins are actually listed higher on the 'reason for hospital visits' than anabolic steroids are.

As for the health drinks? I'm sure there are a few out there that are actually what they advertise. But so many more that aren't. You literally have to go look it up on the internet and read what other people have to say about it.

I thought M13 was suppossed to be a replacement suppliment for people that aren't getting enough fruits and veggies in their diets. I have a friend who swears by this stuff, but its uber expensive, he spends to the tune of $130 a month on it, and justifies it by saying that he spends less on his groceries.

Theres a big mlm push on this supplement and I believe they tell you that you have to use it for 90 days before you see results from it, which I have trouble believing. However there are a lot of pro players including some members of the Flames that swear by it.

I was told by a pharmacist that smokers tend to retain more Vitamin C then non smokers to the point of it being dangerous if you take in more than normal.

Dunno if there as any truth to it but it was a Pharmacist.

Was that the episode where he prescribed cigarettes to the guy with inflammatory bowl disease?

I don't think its a wise idea to use processed vitamins as your primary source.

As in drinking health drinks instead of eating your vegetables.

Yeah, and how's that working for them?

Does he claim benefits from drinking $130 worth of this stuff a month? More energy? Wakefulness? Mental clarity?
