Default Our Sun as you have never seen before

Very cool!

21 pictures.

The Sun is now in the quietest phase of its 11-year activity cycle, the solar minimum - in fact, it has been unusually quiet this year - with over 200 days so far with no observed sunspots. The solar wind has also dropped to its lowest levels in 50 years. Scientists are unsure of the significance of this unusual calm, but are continually monitoring our closest star with an array of telescopes and satellites.

Love the animation one in particular; I never really think of the sun as rotating, as you see it in that image.

Am I the only one who sees a creature playing the turntables in one of those?

Very cool pics Hoz.
and very interesting. Could this lead to lower temperatures here on earth? If I remember correctly, solar activity was one possible reason for the earths rising temperature and the rise in temperature has led to higher levers of co2, no? Does anyone know how long it would take to feel the effects of these lower levels of solar activity on the earth?

Drums, drums in the jungle!

Those are some great pictures, especially when you consider you could drop the entire Earth into some of those sunspots and not even notice.
