I'm looking for a place that has the personal touch run by the sort of feller who'll put his name on the sign.

That's a splendid idea! From what I understand, they also advertise on CalgaryPuck Radio. I know I can trust JiriHrdina for fashion tips!

It depends on what you're looking for, but I've put together some great affordable costumes with stuff from the Sally Ann in the past. Plus your money goes to a good cause.

There are some things better left to the professionals.

True, and I hadn't factored in that my wife is pretty handy with a sewing machine. Sally Ann costumes always need a little customizing.

I'd recommend Don's 1st as they seem to be a better run operation. That said, I've also tried What's in Store, right by Peters Drive In on Edmonton Trail. Smaller, but decent selection of costumes compared to Dons for purchase or rental.

I think I'll go with Don's Hobby Shop with their 59 years of dedicated service in the Calgary market. That, and their ample parking.

Reggie,
May I ask where Don's Hobby Shop is now located. I haven't seen them since they departed that well known old theatrical building Downtown, for I too am looking to turn to the professionals this Halloween for an added flair and extraordinary touch offered only by so many years of experience in this town we call our own.

^Just one block south of 16th Avenue on Centre Street. They are on the west side with a pretty big sign - easy to spot.
I remember their downtown location - used to love going in there as a kid.

I spent many a Saturday afternoon there in my youth, choosing from their fine selection of whoopie cushions and mirth-making products.

I got a costume there two years ago, good staff to help you out. Went just before halloween too, and they were able to help me out.
Although I would go sooner than later the next time around.

Dons used to have one hell of a selection in scale models and RC planes/cars in the downtown store as I recall.... No small feat in early 80's Cowtown... I remember plunking down some hard earned quarters for a jar of Testors Model Master paint there. Good times...

I think that's just the makers name, unless you knew that and were trying to make sense of it.
