but then again, how could you live in quebec and not vote for a party that is going to represent your interests in parliament? Even if their goal is separation most quebecer's vote for them to get their own province's voice into parliament.

we need an alberta party! (oh wait, its the conservatives :P)

This type of attitude, IMO, is the scary thing in this country. Not a Stephen Harper government.

Sometimes I wish I could disconnect myself from reality to.

Btw the liberals threatened to topple the gov't several times in the last year, and Harper called their bluff.

If Trudeau ever won, I vote for a 9 province country.

Big showing from the Conservatives. The vote definetely broke in their favour in Ontario.

But I do agree with Devil's Advocate in that no party really got what they wanted. This next parliament should be interesting.

Harper likely will have to show his hand on big-ticket policy items that he wants to pursue. He's been mum about them for two and a half years preferring to go along the retail social and populist policy packages. What are the big items, if any that he'll unveil?

Clearly the low voter turnout hurt the Liberals as well.

They have a smaller base and when you don't get as many independents you'll get rolled over.

I really want Trudeau as a leader of the Liberals', it would make their outright destruction as a political entity in this country so much sweeter.

2004: Libs 135/301 seats on 37% of the vote
2000: Libs 172/301 seats on 41% of the vote
1997: Libs: 155/301 seats on 38% of the vote
1993: Libs: 177/295 seats on 41% of the vote

Don't cry flamey because the system that gave the Liberals huge majorities they never deserved is now working in the Conservatives' favour.

Right now out of the leadership candidates for the Libs, there are a couple that would be the proper choice for the Libs in Kennedy and Ignatieff (sp?)

There are two choices that would be brilliant for the Conservatives in Rae and Trudeau

Interesting to see how well the Greens did in the Calgary area. I wonder if we ended up as their strongest area of support?

2nd with 12% of the vote in Wild Rose
2nd with 9% in MacLeod
3rd with 10% in Calgary-Nose Hill
3rd with 15% in Calgary-Centre North
3rd with 11% in Calgary-West
3rd with 17% in Calgary-Centre
3rd with 11% in Calgary-East
3rd with 9% in Calgary-Southwest
2nd with 10% in Calgary-Southeast

I believe it was mentioned that BC was their largest support. I remember hearing they placed 3rd in 14 ridings?

Provincially, yeah, but its interesting to see they were 2nd or 3rd in every Calgary and area riding save Calgary-Northeast, and anywhere from 9-17% in every other riding but Crowfoot. Even Vancouver wasn't that consistent.

Calgary and Alberta have been the Green's strongest areas of support for the last two or three elections. There have been a handful of BC constituencies in each election that have given them stronger support, but Calgary as a city and Alberta as a province have been their power base. I'm not sure it that's because Calgarians and Albertans are any greener than votes elsewhere, or whether it's because it's easier for those who don't support the Conservatives to vote Green because an opposition vote doesn't make any difference in Alberta in the first place (give or take Edmonton-Strathcona). Likely the latter mostly.

I think that this is exactly right. Liberals aren't completely stupid either. I would expect that McKenna (assuming he throws his hat in the ring), Kennedy or Iggy take this thing.

Seriously I wonder what happens to Harper though. Looking ahead doesn't it make any CPC supporters wonder about whether he has maxed out? The Liberal vote cratered to the 2nd lowest since confederation and still no majority.
