Looks like the CPC lost a seat in Alberta to an indy.

How else would he be able to argue on the Internet?

Not sure why there is so much spin going on here....it is what it is. A good night for the CPC and a bad night for everyone else.
The goal was to get a majority. He didn't want another disfunctional government.

While they may govern decently the opposition parties are going to make it difficult for Harper to get his bills passed.

Haha Mansbridge looks depressed again since his precious Liberals are losing to the conservatives again.

I will never forget that crap-eating grin he had the last time the Liberals won the majority... I can't stand him.

Yeah he does look pretty uninterested in doing the show.....I am listening to Dave Rutherford on AM right now as well and he is pretty up beat as usual.

Yeah, that's my riding. I've been trying to do some research. It seems there is real controversy over how people are elected to run as members of the CPS there or something. James Ford has real backing, as he has been with the PCs of Alberta for a long time. He has also said that he will cross the floor if Harper sweetens the deal for him. I think he is essentially a CPC vote regardless.

I am too. Though I thoroughly disagree with him on most issues, I respect him immensely. Like Dave Taylor (his former stand-in) as well, he's a provincial Liberal in Alberta for gosh sakes.

Not spin (at least not for me), it just always feel like Liberal is the "default" position of Canadian politics and the Conservatives have to push uphill just to break even
this is a party that had 2 seats 15 years ago...not including what the reformers did.

So yep...its been an uphill battle since. They are literally a couple "crossing the floor" and byelection scenarios away from being a majority. Far from "breaking even" as you say.

Not to say that a majority isn't what they wanted...they did...all parties do. But this is a victory for the conservative element of Canada, as they have always been frowned upon in a greater sense.

Liberalism in Canada is in trouble...at least the party that carries that banner is...for now anyhow. IF, and its a huge one, the BQ were to somehow go away/ agree to stick to provincial politics, then the CPC would of won tonight in a landslide.

Im just not seeing this result as anything but a good one for the party as well as Harper...no matter the media build up coming into it.

That makes sense I guess, it just feels like everything pretty much went their way this election and to not get a majority out of it...

Hopefully they are close enough to a majority that even if they don't get it with a few changes over time, they'll have a bit more ability when working with another party for whatever issue it happens to be. HOPEFULLY the other parties will see that we don't want yet another election and we'd prefer if they could actually govern for a while.

I imagine it will go something like this.

Reporter: Mr. Dion, what do you do now that your party has lost the election?

Dion: What? Lost? I did not lose, that is unfair. Steven Harper just says that I lost, do you know how hard it is to run a campaign? (Please insert bad french accent).

There is some right now?

Ignatieff would be about the most 'conservative' liberal you'd ever find.
