Default Health & Safety: Toner

I've heard before about the toxicity of printer toner. It, obviously, is not so good for you to breath in. I've even heard that photo copiers should be located in a separate room due to this.

However, I've done searching (poorly) and I can't find anything official. Is there any green peeps here that knows of a site where I can find something a little more official than people on forums and yahoo's answers?

Let me guess, your cubicle was recently re-located to the photo-copier/printer room?

I spent pretty much an entire summer sitting next to a huge printer puffing out stinky air in my face. At first, I just taped a piece of paper over the exhaust to stop the wind, then finally turning the entire thing around.

If I die, have them check that out.

As for something official, no. I am of no use.

Google "printer toner health hazard"

The first few links seem fairly decent.

The health concerns deal mainly with the fine particulate nature of toner. The particles are so fine, that it can't be removed readily from our lungs and could accumulate causing chronic conditions

Thanks for the help. I feel kinda dumb for not getting the same search results as Bagor, I just wasn't using the proper key words.

None the less, it looks like research into the health effects of printer toner is still in its early stages.

Our computer tech guy at work is a moron. Instead of replacing the toner cartridge in the printer, he tried to actually open the cartridge and pour the toner into the machine! Long story short he made a huge mess, and when I went home that night I blew my nose only to find black matter in my nostrils...............toner of course.

There should be a WHMIS sheet available for the toner. Some safety policies say to have them posted around the photocopiers.
