Default Malware - Smithfraud-c

So it seems I managed to contract some nasty malware program. Ad-Aware did nothing, and Spybot S&D found the issue, but hasn't seemed to be able to get rid of it.

After some google searching, I managed to find the following webiste. But figured I'd get some tips from CP before downloading and installing a random executable file.

Is the file in that link safe and/or will it help get rid of the problem?

The post in that link is from Apr 29 2005, 11:57 AM! It's hard to believe something that old isn't handled by new software.
Also the site bleepingcomputer doesn't seem trustworthy. Their banner ads are for supposed anti-spyware programs that are actually known spyware!

I fixed a buddies comp that had this - it was NASTY...

I couldn't get it with any program, or by doing the 'fix' as the comp booted into windows, I ended up having to install the c: drive as a slave in another computer and scan it in order for it to work...

good luck!

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I don't know anything about this site but my McAfee Site Advisor gives it a green status. I don't use McAfee except for this free download. It can sometimes help when sifting through google results.

Anyways here is McAfee's take on this website for your reading.

Thanks Vulcan. After reading Siteadvisor, it looks ok to me. But I still cringe whenever I see ads for known crapware on a website. Maybe it's google-ads that does it. If I were bleepingcomputer's owner, i'd look into that.
