Good Pubs in South Calgary?
I recently moved to the deep south of Calgary and despite my best efforts I'm having trouble finding hidden gems ... I suppose they are called hidden gems for a reason. I'm not looking for anything pricey or high class, just standard grub. We're entertaining friends tomorrow afternoon and am looking to CP for culinary guidance. I'm looking for something fairly standard within the price and quality range of a Kilkenney/James Joyce/moxies/milestones kind of thing.
Anybody have any favorites?

Kilt and Caber is a favorite of mine, its in Mckenzie towne. and the food is decent, especially the quesadilla! burgers are pretty good too.

Depends on where you are in the "deep south"- for example Bridlewood is still 15 km away from Copperfield.
My personal favourites are the Kilt & Kaber in McKenzie Towne, and the Barking Frog in Chapparel. (sp?) The Kilt is your typical large pub, always packed, decent food & prices, and great wings. (Tues & Wed wing nights.) The Frog is a smaller "hole in the wall" type of place. Smaller but sometimes better service. Good food still but a more limited menu as you would expect in a smaller place.

The food at The Coach and Horses in Millrise is amazing.
Steer clear of The Darby Arms.
Dixons, in Midnapore, is owned by the same guy who owns the Kilkenny.

Hey that guy stole my idea of carrying a diamond studded goblet everywhere I go! I also have that chain, but I only bring it out for certain occasions because I don't know what "crunk" is (all I know is it ain't dead).
Thanks so much for the suggestions thus far. To answer the question more specifically I'm in Somerset.

Walking Distance from most parts of Somerset.
Dixon's is where it's at. Good food, cheap booze, tons of flat panel TV's, booths with TV's in them, NTN and VLT's if you're into that stuff. Great place to watch sports.
I'll second the "stay away from D'arby Arms" sentiment. That place sucks.
Another decent pub close by is the Bull and Finch in Bridlewood, however food and service are both kind of touch and go there. Some nights it's great, others it's very average.
BP's is... well... BP's. You know exactly what you're getting when you go there. Service in the pub is really good at this one though.
Not quite Walking Distance
The Olive Grove has kick-arse pizza and it's located by sportswap kind of in Midnapore. Kind of dingy inside though.
There's a pub by safeway called Mr. Schnapps. Had wings there once and they were great but my brother in-law works there so I kind of sub-consciously avoid that place.
There is a pub in Okotoks called the George that has awesome deals for Flames games. The pizza is $5 and the pints are cheap on game days. Lots of TV's and it's definitely worth the 15-20min trip out of town.
Kilt and Kaber (sp?) is great, plus it's a quick trip down 22x so it's not that bad to get to.

St George and Dragon is an old favorite. Sometimes a questionable crowd there, but the food is always good, and the service usually is as well. Decent prices too.

I'll third the Coach and Horse
Great staff, awesome selection and that crab dip is to die for.
Whatever you do stay the hell away from any Bull and Finch pub they are the worst franchise in the history of pubs.

Thats way south. I liked the Backwoods pub, but its called something else now and I havent been back in a long time.
The Kilt & Caber is overrated garbage. Did you know you arent allowed on the caber? What kind of BS is that?
Anyways, long story short, I havent been back in a long, long time and I think the staff like it that way.
Governer's is also good, but much more north than you're looking for.

Sounds better than the Woodys at 17th Ave and 37 St SW, eh Aeneas?
Every time I drive by, there are police cars there, and I don't think they are there for the lunch special.

Big bump to thank Boblobla, metal_geek and flip for recommending the coach and horses. Absolutely sold ... i'm adopting it as my own.
I'd also like to note that this may be the first time I've ever actually agreed with Boblobla and flip on almost anything. I feel mildly dirty, but memories of the ginger beef bowl help with that.

GOAT!

Peanut's Sports Pub at the Carriage House on Macleod Trail has the best steak sandwich in town.
Not to mention 17 big screen TVs, 4 projection screens and 8 satellite feeds.
http://www.carriagehouse.net/peanuts.html
QR77 has broadcast a few Stamps games from there, and they have a Monday Night Football thing every Monday (during NFL season, obviously). I'm pretty sure Fan960 has done some Overtime shows from their too...
