May 17th, new SOAD, disc one of a two disc set.........I am very pumped for this one, I love the new song, BYOB. You gotta crank it when you play it in your car. Also, the Armenian boys are havin a North American Tour starting this summer and it says North American which leaved me reason to believe that there could be some Canadian dates. System is the only band in my top 10(they're number two) that I have never seen live. Cant wait
You can watch their new vid, sample the new single and read on their tour info here:
Crank It Up......NOW!!!!!

I never really liked any of their stuff, it's too weird for me.
But in the interest of fairness, I will give them a chance. What songs should I look for?

when you open the link, the new single BYOB automatically plays........but if you had trouble liking their old stuff, you may not like their new stuff, but hey, different strokes for different folks

Their singer sort of reminds me of Jello Biafra in that song.
Edit: Well, at least for the first minute or so.

Can't wait. One of my favourite bands. Love all 3 of their existing albums.

Hard to say, in my experience lot's of people like different songs. So the best I could do is list some of my favourites...
Chop Suey (you've probably heard it, big single), Forest, Aerials, Streamline, War?, Peephole and P.L.U.C.K.
One thing to keep in mind is that System of a Down pays attention to the flow of songs on an album and some of the songs flow seemlessly from one to another. So random doesn't work so well on their albums and some of the songs would seem to end abruptly if you listen to them alone. I've kept that in mind for my song recommendations to some extent.
For the best System experience, I would recommend downloading an album and listening to it in order at least 5 times.
With a lot of rock music I find I'm not drawn to it until I hear it a lot. Sometimes you really have to give something a chance. One of my favourites bands (Opeth) took me probably 10 listens of each their albums to get into the particular album.

The best part about this tour is that The Mars Volta (!!!) will be playing with System of a Down on ALL tour dates. If this comes through Calgary I'm definitely going. Apparently the tour will be in small venues only. So if it comes to Calgary it'll likely be at Mac Hall as opposed to the Saddledome or Corral (which, IMO, is a very good thing)
P.S. REDVAN, if SOAD is too weird for you I wouldn't even try listening to The Mars Volta.

I once partied on their tour bus. I don't even like their stuff, but me and some buddies were in Penticton last year and their bus pulled up to ask us where a bar was, we tried to tell them and they just said hop on and show us, so we did and had a beer. Best part of the whole experience was this little exchange:
Me: "Are you guys in a band or something"
Them: "Yeah, System of a Down"
Me: "Oh cool"

Mars Volta is a different kind of weird. I would love to see them. SOAD, not so much...but I have heard their live shows are decent.

Please explain.
These guys consistently put out catchy tunes and a fun energy. Plus, mostly all their songs are about something important / intelligent, like war, poverty, etc. No Britney Spears or Country love song propogated crap.

Total joke guys. If you didn't see the country music thread from two days ago check it out, that is why I responded to FDW like that.
I'm actually planning to much up System of a Down's new cd this weekend.

Best cd of the year so far. The one I was looking most forward to was NIN "with teeth" but this one is a lot better (still like NIN though). I will be checking them out live as soon as they are in the area.
