A bit late, but I thought I'd share this.

Quote:
The time to be spectators, onlookers, or sideliners is over.

It is time for us to show up, *** be heard & be counted ***

Prentice's Stampede Breakfast rally is tomorrow (8:45 - 11am, Sat July 5th). You can sign up here,
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=17795093906

While Prentice refuses to consult with Canadians across the land, we, the lucky ones in Calgary, have the rights and duties to meet and tell him **in person** exactly why Bill C-61 is ill-conceived and how it will hurt all Canadians.

With the following slogans and info sheets, we hope to back up our passions with reasons. Slogans can be found in their respective directories,
http://members.shaw.ca/cfilm/pub-files/Bill-C61/

"Fair Copyright info sheets.pdf " can be found here. Please print a few for distribution.
http://members.shaw.ca/cfilm/pub-fil...o%20sheets.pdf

Hope you can show up, be heard & be counted.

****

P.S. Remember to speak on areas that we are passionate about and knowledgeably. Please be polite, clear and firm at all times.

If we are rude or rowdy, then those unacceptable behaviours will become the focus and distract needed attention from our fight against the ills of Bill C-61.

P.P.S. By the way, there is a scheduled brief interview around 7:15 tomorrow morning about the Prentice breakfast rally on CHQR 770 AM ( http://www.qr77.com/ ). Have a listen if you have time.
More info in this one.

Dear Fair Copyright for Canada Calgary members,

Happy Canada Day. There are four more days till the Prentice breakfast this Saturday http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=17795093906

Here is an an update and our current plans. Please check the event page again on Friday (July 4th) in case of last minute change.

1) Donations

Please bring Cash donations for the Children's Cottage Society (as suggested by Prentice's breakfast flyer)

2) New slogans and information sheets

Thanks to Theo's help, we now have a new batch of slogans.

Please download & print the one you are most passionate about and knowledgeable about so you can speak with conviction.

The slogans are in colour and black & white. The "flipped" images are ready for use to make your own iron-on transfer t-shirts.

The PDF files can be found under their respective directories in
http://members.shaw.ca/cfilm/pub-files/Bill-C61/

There is a Read-me file if you need extra help,
http://members.shaw.ca/cfilm/pub-fil...61/Read-me.txt

3) Meeting place at 8:45

The Osteria de Medici parking lot is not that big (8 parking spots?). But since many of us haven't met each other, I suggest we gather at the corner of Kensington Road and 10th Street NW at 8:45am

We will have a short briefing. And take some group photos and group videos sharing our concerns re Bill C-61.

4) 9:00 - 11:00 Stampede breakfasts and meet Minister Prentice

Go get our Stampede breakfasts and have our chance to talk to Minister Prentice about our C-61 concerns.

We may each only get a few seconds of Prentice's time. So be concise. Speak on areas that we are passionate about and knowledgeably. Remember to speak politely, clearly and firmly.

5) 9:00 - 11:00 after breakfasts and meeting with Minister Prentice

After we have our breakfasts and chats with minister Prentice, we can mix with the public to give the gathered breakfast event attendees chances to talk to us and ask us questions.

****) Photos and Videos

Please shoot plenty of photos and videos throughout our peaceful protest to post on Facebook, YouTube, and our blogs, etc.

Lets get our message out.

And Harper has promised to resurrect this bill in his election policy statement. (page 14)
Quote:
A re-elected Conservative Government led by Stephen Harper will reintroduce federal
copyright legislation that strikes the appropriate balance among the rights of musicians,
artists, programmers and other creators and brings Canada's intellectual property
protection in line with that of other industrialized countries, but also protects consumers
who want to access copyright works for their personal use.
We will also introduce tougher laws on counterfeiting and piracy and give our customs
and law enforcement services the resources to enforce them. This will protect
consumers from phoney and sometimes dangerous products that are passed off as
reliable brand-name goods.

Did you guys ever consider just buying your music legally?

This law is not preventing you from copying your legally purchased CD onto your iPod... in fact, it gives you the specific right to do so (instead of the older, unwritten "right").

The introduction of C-61 was a public nightmare. If Harper plans on re-introducing it, I'm sorry, he's just not listening to the people, so how is that good representation?

Except that DRM in any form IS preventing you from doing what you want. If you buy a CD with DRM and go around the copy protection, $20,000 fine.

What's wrong with DRM? Does the artist who makes the music not have a right to decide how you get to listen to their music?

If I make a CD and I (for some stupid reason) decide I only want it played on CD players... should I not have that right? I made it, it's my work. I should be allowed to decide how it's listened to.

For the record, I listened to Prentice talk about this legislation. He stated that the language of it gave people the wrong impression, and that the spirit of the law is to, in fact, give consumers the rights to use their iPods, Apple TVs, etc etc... and to protect those rights.

Whether or not they're fixing the language to be more clear, I have no clue. They cut to commercial and I got to where I was going, so I stopped listening to the radio.

That carbon tax will increase the cost of gasoline, heating oil and natural gas heating. The cost of shipping goods will increase also resulting in higher prices for the good we purchase. In a nut shell the cost of living will rise.

This actually just cost Harper my vote. If I had voted early like I had planned, I would have already voted Conservative. Not that it matters in my riding.

Don't like Dion.

Won't vote NDP.

I'm running out of choices.

Except for one thing.. it's not the artist making that decision, nor benefiting from it. Trent Reznor for example was furious that his album With Teeth (I think) had some nasty DRM on it.

Artists make money from tours and merch, not from record sales.

That bill isn't so much helping artists as it is helping the record giants. I bet if you polled most artists, they'd tell you they'd prefer no DRM.

Prentice is my MP. I was seriously hoping he'd door knock so I could give him a piece of my mind. I doubt he'll show up in this part of his riding (Hillhurst).

He will not get my vote. As minister of Industry, I was mildly impressed with some of his actions to make car importing easier which swung my vote for a bit. But C-61 and it's antiquated ways torpedoed that. I'd love to tell him exactly why I won't vote for him and see his reaction in person...
