Default Best places for an oil change

Just wondering where the best place for an oil change in Calgary is, I'm looking for a quickie place that has Mobil1 and does a decent job.

I used to use the minute lube on Macleod just north of Heritage and they did a fine job.

I do it myself now however. Much cheaper. And quicker. I know that a couple of times when I went to Minute Lube the wait was 3 or 4 cars long. And it's like 10 minutes per car. So I waited sometimes 40 minutes or more just to get in there. Kind of a waste of time, and in the time I could have done it myself.

So I bought 20 OEM AC Delco oil filters for my car off ebay for $0.99 and $19 shipping, and now I get oil from Cdn Tire or wherever and do it myself.

If I bring it to my mechanic (and get it done with something else that needs work), he just brings it to Walmart.

So if I don't need anything else done, I bring it to Walmart. My schedule is pretty flexible though.

I go to Mr. Lube on the off-hours (aka 8am when they open up).

The are usually not that bad.

What kind of car?

I take mine to Option Imports. Macleod and 46th Ave, same strip mall as Hooters.

There is a shop, branded Texaco or something, in the NE, down the street from Princess Auto, just NE of the Whitehorn station that is advertising Amsoil synthetic oil changes for 69.99, which I thought was pretty decent.

edit: its here

Mobil1 is not what it used to be. It is now a group 3 synthetic, rather than a group 4.

A good recommendation is Penzoil Platinum. It is a full synthetic and should be available everywhere that sells any Penzoil, which is a good portion of lube shops. I buy mine at Walmart and change the oil myself, however.

Awesome, thanks a lot for that tip, I've owned a couple cars but this is my first newer one and while I've always maintained cars really well, I wanted to make sure this one was getting a really good grade of oil. Once again CP helps me out, feel free to delete this thread mods. Thanks again.

I got an oil change there once and the guy didn't tighten the oil filter. Later that day, I was driving out to Red Deer, and at Innisfail the oil light came on. I pulled over and opened the hood to find the oil had splashed all over the engine. It had seized and now needed a new engine. I have obviously never been back.

I don't mean to jack the thread...

but I wonder what brand of full synthetic oil you guys would recommend as I'm thinking about switching to Synthetic oil...

I drive a Mazda 3 and they require 5W-20 grade oil, which brand is best? Castrol, Pennzoil, Mobil1? Or are there others that are better?

Like I mentioned, I found Penzoil Platinum. I use it in my Mazdaspeed3 and my Subaru Legacy GT.

I did a lot of reading on Bobistheoilguy. I also had an analysis done at DysonAnalysis, who recommended Penzoil Platinum.

Bumping this bad boy.

Anyone have a price list for these companies? I'd prefer not to go into a Minute Lube/Mr. Lube and have no idea what I am paying for. Mr. Lube has no pricing on their website or even in their store (unless I drive in and talk to a mechanic) and an entrepreneur I find this one of the stupidest business decisions you can make and I will boycott Mr. Lube because of this. May seem like a stupid principle, but I stand by it. It is shady business in my opinion.

I'd rather not do an oil change in this weather since my bolt is basically stripped and needs a vice grip to get it off. I'll pay the extra $15-20 this time to get it done (I usually do it myself).

I want to go synthetic this time, enough conventional oil.

Mr. Lube is pretty expensive. Around $54 if I remember correctly.

Replacement drain plugs are cheap, replace it and be done with it.

If the car isn't that old, why not just drop it off at the dealership? My civic only costs $47 for a regular oil change. Synthetic is an additional $15 I think, and the wait time is usually 30-45mins at T&T Honda. I change my own oil in the summer, so I just have them do it over the winter months.

Because the incompetent f*** tards at Shaganappi are idiots and piss me off.

They can change a bearing for my wheel (which apparently is a hard job), yet they need 4 times to change my driver side window because it keeps coming off the tracks, oh yeah and its still broken because they don't understand that it is broken from within the door panel, not the damn weathering strip.

I hate that place and I will never go back there, no matter what.

I'll just do it myself and try and find a oil drag plug somewhere. Looking around online and it looks like everyone charges $60-100 for synthetic.

Does any "mechanic" have prices listed? I always have to email/call my indy for an estimate. You'll boycott the store, but you won't call to find out?
