Default Refurbished iPod Touch

So I'm in the market for a new mp3 player and I'm almost positive I'm going to go with the iPod Touch.

My question is what are everyone's thoughts on buying refurbished as opposed to new. Looking around online there's quite a variety of opinions out there, but I'm curious if anyone knows anything most people wouldn't.

I just ordered a refurbed Ipod Classic from Apple's website..its on its way, I don't have it yet. But Apple offers the same 1 year warranty on their refurbished Ipods that they do on the new ones, so it seems like a pretty safe bet.

Apple refurbished - I'd be buying it off of Apple's online store.

Personally, I have no issues going with refurb.

I find that they are usually almost new units that had something wrong with them "off the line" that wasn't caught, but will be working fine now.

When looking for a new laptop, I always look for refurbs. I've never had a dud and the savings are often significant. Sometimes the warranty isn't as good as new (on the last IBM Thinkpad I bought, you couldn't buy the extended warranty), but like I said, I haven't had an issue yet.

yeah, I don't have a problem with buying a refurb from the factory. I have considered buying a refurbed touch as well.

where can you buy refurbed laptops? I think you can buy them from most stores like futureshop, but does IBM offer refurbs direct?

Apple's warranty is the same for refurbs as it is for new items. I have had trouble with one out of 2 refurb ipods i have bought and it was replaced out of warranty for me.

The only difference you'll see is you get a brown cardboard box vs the nice 'Designed in California' one

Thanks for the responses.

A little research tells me that the refurbished touches on Apple's store are only 1st gen models. I'm going to just bite the bullet and go for a new one instead.

I had a refurb ipod, but not the touch. Seemed like brand new and with the same warrenty as the new one, the only difference was it came in a brown cardboard box, instead of the fancy coloured one.
Do it!

Not sure on the refurbished thing... but I bought a touch from someone on Kijiji for like $130 bucks for an 8 gig. One generation old, cover still on so screen and backing are in good condition. Works really well and a lot greater savings than even refurbished.

Refurbished items are fine. I've got two macbooks and an ipod from Apple's refurbished program and never had any issues.

FWIW...

$169 for an 8gb current generation iPod Touch refurbished from Apple.

Basically the better life is improved. The first gen also does not have a speaker and some what important, there is no physical volume control. That means you to change the volume, you have to turn on the ipod and do volume control there. That's the biggest reason why I chose to go with a 2nd Gen.

But between second and third gen. there's not much difference. So I based mine more on price.

As for apps... a lot. That said, I don't have a lot of music, but apps don't take up that much space.
