Default Well there is something you don't see everyday...

I stopped at the 7-11 on my way back to work to get me a pop and corndog. The guy ahead of me in line brought back his purchase, and nicely and politely informed them that he had ordered chicken strips but got taters. The weird part is that he appologized to them. How often do you see a customer apologize to a store when the store screwed up? I worked retail for nearly 6 years and I never saw anybody be so polite when they were inconvenienced by anothers mistake.

Is there really nice people out there? I thought they were mythical, like bigfoot.

I apologize if I screw up. I don't believe the "customer is always right" line for a very good and simple reason. Have you ever stopped to think how many stupid people there are in the world? The customer's probably wrong a huge % of the time. That said, I don't apologize if it's entirely the clerks fault, but unless my service is really bad, I'm always polite. I'm not one of those people who start my tips at 15% (some start at 10 even) and tick a point or 2 off for every "mistake".

Ok, which 7-11 were you at that still sells chicken strips?

Their chicken strips-on-a-stick were one of the greatest things ever. I've only seen them at the Crowsnest Pass 7-11 recently.

How was the apology phrased? I sometimes use 'sorry' as a synonym for 'excuse me', which may make things sound like an apology when it's not (As in 'Sorry, could you grab me another drink?').

I apologize when I send stuff back (ESPECIALLY FOOD) all the time. Last thing I need is someone giving me special sauce on my dinner because it was cooked wrong and I was an a-hole about it.

Whoops, I'm sorry I paid you for chicken strips and you gave me taters. I don't know what I was thinking. It won't happen again. Please forgive me.

I'm the same way.. I'm super apologetic about asking for something to be re-cooked or changed.

I usually don't even complain about food, nevermind send it back.

There are pricks out there that just enjoy being pricks and couldn't care less about how apologetic you were when you sent it back. They're more than happy to give you a little treat for your efforts.

Just eat it and complain afterward, and then don't go back. Or if it's absolutely inedible, then just complain and refuse to pay for it and then leave. Obviously, you can't eat everything first and then complain.

Here is a loose description of how it went down:

The guy waited until the cashier was finished ringing in a customer, and then said something like "I ordered chicken strips but I got taters, sorry." Then the lady said something to the effect of "I'm sorry, I screwed up, I'll get you your strips" and then he again said "Sorry". Then when they gave him the strips and apologized again, he once again said "sorry".

I dont know why, I am like that too. When it comes to food I dont call people out on it like I do other things. Not sure why. Probably because I feel embarassed I have to pay someone to cook food for me instead of making it myself.

Why is it that all 7-11's south of Calgary still sell Chester Fried Chicken? Have southern Albertans withstood the advances of the Colonel Sanders--ooh how I hate the Colonel with his wee beady eyes--more effectively than all others? This should be the subject of an ethnographic survey.

not all 7-11s do. The places in Alberta that sell the chicken that I know of:

Vegreville
Lethbridge
Claresholm
Coleman
St Paul
Edson
Lloydminister

what can I say...I love those chicken strips and wedges!

Having worked for 7-11 ages ago I think that most of the "country stores" sell the chicken stuff and none of the Calgary and Edmonton ones do (or they were being phased out while I was there).

Exactly. If you make it seem like it's your fault and you're not too upset about it then you are much more likely to get a positive response. You can screw them when the time to tip comes!

Now that you mention it, you can add Rocky Mountain House to that list.
