Default Firefox Minefield

**NOTE THIS IS PRE-ALPHA SOFTWARE USE AT OWN RISK**

With google releasing chrome, it seems mozilla has a new browser project in the works. Not sure how long it has been around.

It apparently has the "fastest javascript engine" in any browser, and is 10% faster than chrome.

http://www.linuxhaxor.net/2008/09/28...r-than-chrome/

So is this the start of another browser war, between google and mozilla? Could be interesting to see what happens.

There has been a revision of the javascript engine in the works for a while now, and has been scheduled for FX 3.1

Here was an article I read about it last month. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...nce-boost.html

Quote:
They are "getting ready to take JavaScript performance into the next tier" with a radically innovative optimization tactic called tracing that has already produced performance improvements ranging between 20 and 40 times faster in some cases. They believe that this is just the beginning of what can be accomplished with tracing, and they expect to be able to achieve even better speed as the work continues.

I wonder if that will be incorporated into Chrome (Which was developed with Webkit), or gPhone?

Don't forget Opera.

Give them each a try and use the one that is best for you.

I primarily use Firefox since I found I'm kind of attached to a bunch of Add-Ons and got used to how they work. The only hiccough I have with Firefox is some of the Windows streaming stuff needing a plug-in, but it doesn't seem to set the security permissions correctly; in those cases I use Chrome.

I use Firefox, Chrome and Opera. Each for its own purpose. If Opera or Chrome had add-ons i might ditch firefox all together.

Yah, Chrome and Safari are based on webkit.
So if webkit gets updated, so should these 2 browsers.

I've never found Firefox to be slow...

Neither Chrome or Safari offers anywhere near the feature set of Firefox, and IE is the spawn of the devil. Opera is just too... different for my tastes.

There may be faster browser's out there, but Firefox is the best overall experience for me.

Haven't used it yet....but the news is great.

Competition between the two is the best thing that could happen. Now we'll get the best product available.
