Tobboganride
Two years ago (2006) good friends of ours announced they had sold everything they owned and were beginning a trip around the world. They arent coming back until 2010.
Little did we...or most people they knew...know the extent of their plans.
They had bought a sailboat and had taken every course available for a few years and became expert sailors.
I have followed their trip jealously for 2 years now and thought some of you might like to see and share this fantastic endeavor.
I can honestly say that this is something I would also like to do....Im sure this will give some of you the spirit as well...
Enjoy...

I don't even know these people and I am supremely jealous. I would love to do something like this. The photos are pretty cool.

I just spent a good chunk of my day at work reading the entire blog. Makes me wish I was out there instead of stuck at work and school. Back in junior high, we took a week long sailing trip off the BC coast. It was an absolute blast! I can't imagine sailing around the world, though.

I did that trip as a parent monitor with my daughter when she was in JH as well. Great time. I think the boat was the Pacific Swift on the S.A.L.T. Tour? Yep thats the boat...

How many indigenous cultures have they converted to Kipprusoffarianism?

Frankly, sailing scares the hell out of me. I don't think I could spend that much time on the water. I applaud their efforts and imagine it will have totally changed their lives forever.
I would love to travel more, but alas I cannot.

Thanks for the link Cheese - what a great trip & loved reading the blog! These are the kinda people that make me feel embarassed for the comparatively lame life I lead when I meet them at parties.....but I still want to be like them when I grow up.

Cool thanks for sharing, awesome trip for sure.
However I am a little disappointed as I thought this thread was about Cheese and a wild Toboggan ride.

These people planned for many years I guess....chose not to have kids and worked this adventure into their dreams. That in itself is about 99.99999% more than most people would do, hence the jealousies of all.
I wonder how in the hell they will be able to convert back to a semblance of daily life once back? Will he go back to working as an architect? Man I just cant see working in an office after this adventure! Will they have kids late in life? I can hardly wait to put these questions to them when they are back!
As an aside, the Waterloo Record, our newspaper, has been following their journey as well, Im sure they will be able to milk the trip for some donero by simply holding court and talking about the adventure for those who would also be interested.

I have fond memories of taking my GT and going down the huge hills in my hometown. I broke my collarbone and my left leg after one magnificent ramp was setup. People that were there still talk about it.
Oh wait, this is about sailing, sorry
Me personally, the only reason for me to get married is to have kids. I cannot see myself not having kids when I tie the knot. Although, kids are annoying and that looks very peaceful.

They'd have to be crazy not to write a book.
