Xbox 360 Elite Vs. PS3
I'm thinking of getting either the 360 Elite or the PS3... same price at the moment. I have researched for a while but keep on getting the same answers... like the 360 is very breakable (Red Ring of Death LOL) but has a better LIVE system and more variety of games... PS3 is not as breakable as the 360, less games, lesser online experience, blah, blah, etc...
As you may see some people would think either the 360 or PS3 is better... but I seriously can't decide.... so please put your input if you either own a 360 or PS3 or even both! Thanks!

Early last week I had the same dilemma as you. NHL09 was my prevailing motivation. I chose PS3. I am glad I did.
To me, it boiled down to one thing. PS3 = superior technology.

What are you looking for in a system? I have both and like both but I've been playing my PS3 more lately but that's probably more because I just got it back in July. I did choose my PS3 over my 360 when buying NHL 09 but that was because I know more people with it that have a PS3 and I'm not a big multiplayer but want to play in the EASHL and the PS3 offers free online play.

These threads are tricky because all the ps3 owners will tell you that the ps3 is the best and the 360 users will do the same. Flat out I'll tell you now that whichever decision you make will be the right one because both systems are fun.
I'm pro ps3 because it's features are more in-tune with my entertainment demands. I have an hd tv, so the blu ray player is pretty much a must. I'm a bit of a quality whore, so I haven't even considered buying a dvd in almost a year. In my opinion the system is worth it for a blu ray player alone.
Built in wifi was also a big deal for me. The 360 requires a $100 accessory to use a wireless signal, so that immediatly eliminated it as an option for me.
Rechargable controllers is more of a nitpicky thing. I'm not sure if the elite comes with these now (the older models didn't and I had to pay $30 for a battery pack).
The games arguement in my opinion was more of an issue last year. Ps3 didn't have a ton of games and the multiplatform versions tended to be stronger on the 360. Lately we're seeing a shift where the games are much more equal when they hit both systems, and in some cases the ps3 versions are showing minor improvements even. The library has grown to the point where there are enough incredible games for the system that I doubt you could play them all.
Live is incredible for social organization, but personally I'm finding the psn is slowly improving. It probably will never be outright better, but it is free (something else that is huge for me as online gaming isn't normally my thing ... well, before nhl 09 of course). As for games on the psn compared to Live, I prefer the psn games. That's more a preferential thing as both systems have their share of quality downloadables.
Ps3 does lack in the online department I find mainly for it's lack of mic users (as the system does not come with a mic like the 360 does). This does have it's advantages as when using live you can often find yourself balls-deep in ######bags and 13 year olds hurling racial slurs at you that would make Tupac cry. Regardless, it's annoying when you're playing an online game and nobody is talking or communicating.
Check out my LittleBigPlanet thread to learn my #1 reason to buy a PS3.

and most importantly, ps3 has an awesome eashl team on nhl09!!!
actually, i just recently bought my ps3 after asking for similar advice.
for me it came down to free wireless, free online play, a bluray player for future use, preferring the PS controller, and upgrading the hard drive for more storage.
i have never used xbox live, so its not like i know what i am missing. i have mostly been a PC gamer for several years and my ps2 has served me well for many years.
but as many state, its can be a personal decision. i myself dont play halo or any other exclusive games. any game i am interested in (nhl, madden, rock band) is on all teh platforms. and as mentioned above, there no longer seems to be a quality dropoff on ps3 compared to xbox.
so just go with your gut.

Dobbles is correct. The CP Fatas NHL team is pretty much the best reason to get a ps3. We almost have a fully functional web site and everything!

ya now we're stuck clogging up the cp tech forum again. Perhaps the fata chat room has just been clogged by too much spam and porn. Have you tried running a Keno ball through it's tube?
edit: my apologies ... this is brutally OT.
Don't forget to ask yourself which games you're interested in. Take a look at a list of upcoming exclusives and see which one tickles your fancy.

I had an XBOX 360 up until about 2 weeks ago, which I sold on CP here. The reason I sold it, and all the games I had, was to pick up a PS3.
The main reason for me is that for the most part, I only play sports games, so I really wasn't using the XBOX. I enjoyed gutiar hero, and some of the niche games, but for the most part... demos got boring, and my HD-DVD drive became obsolete.
As a movie-file, the fact that the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player was a big deal to me. Had HD-DVD won the format war, I'd probably still have the XBOX. Down time between sports games are now filled with movies.
Game play, and online experience, you're probably going to find that it's the same.
One of the other benifits is that the PS3 was much easier to make into a media centre than the XBOX. I can copy music, pictures, movies, etc onto the hard drive. For the life of me, I could not find how to copy... streaming was the only way to make the XBOX media options make sense. I stressed over conversion, and streaming programs, etc.
As a former XBOX owner, I say I'm more than happy with my PS3. If I were to reccomend one over the other, PS3 would be it. I'm also using wireless, so I made sure the unit I purchased had the built in wireless adapter.
Hope that helps.

Yes, the 360 pales in comparison for the CP team. I've only seen maybe 5 members of all the ones that have signed up. There's on a couple of us that are regulars and I've never played with a GM yet.
Otherwise, I've never regretted getting an Xbox. I've had my box for 1.5 years with zero problems and any of the newer models don't suffer from the RROD. I don't need Metal Gear or Final Fantasy, so just about everything else is available for the 360 and there's little to no difference in quality.
$60 a year for Live doesn't bother me because it's a quality product. I like that I can use my Logitech universal remote for it and I have always planned to get a stand alone Blu-Ray player, something in the next year.
So in the end to me, it comes down to games. Gears of War and Bioshock or Metal Gear and Final Fantasy?

In the interest of being fair, Final Fantasy is coming to the 360.

only Final Fantasy 13 is going to the Xbox ( and subsequently delaying the NA/EU PS3 release as a result...farking *rabble rabble rabble*)
FFv13 at this time is still a PS3 exclusive

Ah cool no problem. You could actually replace that with Ratchet and Clank. Though I do really want to play that game.

CP Fatas PS3 FTW!
But seriously, PS3 can be upgraded with almost any 2.5" laptop hard drive. A 250 gig ps3 will be sweet when they rellease the PVR for it!

I've said this before in similar threads. Go to a store and try the controller. Pick the system who's controller you prefer.
I personally despise Sony's controllers and have found that the Xbox360's are the best designed controllers I have ever used.
The games are more plentiful on the Xbox side, but the PS3 will soon catch up (not many studios do platform exclusives these days). You have to pay for live, but it is far more stable then Sony's option (you get what you pay for).
If I were buying purely for a gaming machine, I would still choose the Xbox360. If I was more concerned about a multimedia center, the PS3 is hands down the better deal.

Thanks for you guys input. I have decided to a buy a PS3... if it weren't for my 3 friends 360's that ironically broke down yesterday... I would of gone for an 360 Elite. Always have been a fan of the Tekken series, MGS, and FF's.
