The best way to try and help immigrants become part of stable communities is to marginalize them and make them feel even more out of place. That should help them fit in.

More accurately, there's a black lab in the movie The Dam Busters (parts of which appear on a television screen in The Wall) with that name.

No stats for you, but a quote from a former cop:
" Cam Stewart, a former Calgary cop who now runs an intercultural consulting company, says the majority of criminals in Calgary are “mainstream” Caucasian Canadians. He suggests the notion that immigrants are responsible for crime comes from fear, not facts. “That’s why we’re getting that rise of hate groups in our city and in our province,” says Stewart, who used to work in the CPS diversity resources unit. “Because people are hearing this at the dinner table. They’re hearing this in the coffee shops or in the bars, and they’re saying, ‘Well, we’ve got to stand up for our rights’ and all that stuff.”

Thanks

Interesting quote.
But, he doesnt specify what type of criminal he is talking about.
Sure, the mainstream Caucasian is a criminal - they are all speeding down Deerfoot at lightning speeds. Or, maybe they are all ripping MP3's.
But, can his statement be extended to violent crimes? Is it true that the majority of gang members are Caucasian? I would doubt it.
The gang related crimes and most violent crimes are the ones that everyone is truly worried about, right?

I don't know about most but I find them be pretty fair. At least it's an alternative to the right winged publications like the Herald and the Sun.

Funny.... all the arrest reports I read lately seem to be of white dudes.
After that Brazilian got shot in Chinatown, how many people just assumed it was an Asian that pulled the trigger? Count me on the list that was surprised when it was some white boy they arrested.
And then this latest arrest a few weeks back:
http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...0-d657e8171b69
Nicholson, Collingwood, Pilon. Ah... he must be of the Saigon Collingwoodses...
Don't the Biker Gangs really control the drug trade anyways? All those damn immigrant bikers on them Harleys....
Crime is an equal opportunity employer...yes Asians are a part of that scene. Lots of white folk in it too, along with everyone else. It's rather shortsighted to just say it's immigrants that are committing these crimes. I don't think Richardson meant to say it's strictly immigrants that are committing ALL the crimes. He's a veteran politician, he should know better. But his choice of words leave that possibility open to interpretation which is what he's getting beat up for now.
The Herald forums really need some better moderation, the yahoo/crotchety old bugger ratio there really makes that paper and Calgarians look slightly right of Alabama.

Pergaps it's gang names like "fresh off the boat" that are giving that impression? I don't know about you all, but to me that sounds like a gang of immigrants... However, it's not the only hang in town, that's for sure. We also have the "fresh off the boat killers" gang.

Always bothers me how people on both sides of the argument put "caucasian" and "immigrant" as opposites.
How hard is it to understand that someone can be both or neither?

Everyone knows that every single problem in today's society is caused by immigrants.

I spent a summer working in a metal fabrication shop and there was a guy from Jamaica working there. When he went back to work before the bell rang at lunch all the "real Canadians" took a turn at hacking on the immigrant.
"Blimey, 'oo the 'ell does that guy think he is? 'E should go back to where he came from".
"Mama mia, lunch ain't even ovah yet, and he's trying to make us look bad-uh. He'sa probbly a-stealing my tools!"
