I use itunes, simplifies my ipod experience.
However even without the ipod, I think the play list features ( random party shuffle, genius ), the ease of ripping/burning CD's, and the ability to occasionally download a song ( with DRM , or without), or a missed TV episode all make it pretty nice.
Itunes gives you the ability to rank all your music, and then Party Shuffle feature will then play it randomly according to your rank. ie 5 star music gets played more than 1 star music etc. You can add songs or remove then from queue up songs like the feature you are saying you like in Winamp.
Genius playlists let you select any song from your library ( that genius supports) and gives you a playlist of any number of songs from your library that go well in a playlist with it. Recently, this is pretty much all I listen to when I am on the go.
It is simple enough my Grandma can use it, and powerful enough that I am never left wanting for a feature.
That said, it does use more resources than winamp, or at least a few years ago it did. However unless Winamp beefed up pretty good, I suspect that it is still a bit more of a system resource hog. On my laptop, I hardly notice it is on unless I am burning/ripping.
