Love it or hate it, NBK was from back in the era when Oliver Stone had an edge. Lately, he either has no edge at all (World Trade Center) or is just an absolute mess (Alexander). Not quite sure what to make of his upcoming release.
This one is probably picked, but what the hell, it is late and I dont have the energy to check. Gimme from 1959 Ben-Hur. Pre-60's please. If in fact this has been picked, by all means dont wait up. I wont be able to make another pick untill late tomorrow.
For the chariot scene alone this is worth the pick.
Ben-Hur is epic! and no, it hasn't been picked. I did think about it a few rounds ago but took something else instead.
Here is that chariot scene.
That was pick 285 in the 11th round.
Itse, JerzeeGirl, Superflyer are up next.
Sorry, i'm behind on the Draft Board by a couple of days. Will catch up tomorrow.
Sorry I won't be raving about how great "Reign of Fire" (my previous pick) is, but I only have time for my actual pick now. I'm extremely surprised that this is still available (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't usually like sports movies that much and I did enjoy this quite a bit, so it's pretty obvious choice for me. Great fun, simply a very well done film.
One obvious reason for the success of this film is the collection of then or future star actors; Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, Dannis Haysbert, Rene Russo, Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen...
"Come on Dorn, get in front of the damn ball! Don't give me this "olé" bull!"
As our 11th round pick, team Selfmade Heroes is happy to pick Major League (1989) in the Sports category.
"Pedro Cerrano: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come. Eddie Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff. Roger Dorn: , Harris. Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball. Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball? "
The basic premise of the movie...
Gotta love president Pedro
And of course, the famous "Wild Thing" -scene. (This also includes a scene from Major League II, sorry, youtube had surprisingly little on this movie.
The movie definitely has things going for it in the sports category, especially because many of the actors could actually play baseball. For example, Charlie Sheen at the time of filming could actually pitch at speeds well above 80 mph, and Dennis Haysbert actually hit a few homeruns during the filming process.
For our 11th round pick, That's What She Said is proud to choose (and thrilled that it's still around!) in the Animated category, The Simpsons Movie.
We've been watching the Simpsons for 20 odd years now and probably most fans of the show wondered if they'd ever make a movie and if that movie would be any good - well, in 2007 both questions were answered.
The script was begun in 2001 and re-written over 100 times with edits and cuts being made even as animation was under way. The pre-opening buzz saw 7-11s re-made as Quickie Marts and had tons of fans reserving seats and talking nostalgically in ginormous lines about the best. episode. ever. (Talk amongst yourselves and pick - there's room for discussion obviously.)
The movie was an instant hit - being the right blend of regular show with just enough extra to make it a movie. It brought us Spider Pig, the death of Green Day and a few more zany adventures from everyone's favourite dysfunctional family. A true Simpsons classic and with the movie having grossed over $526 million, the only question left un-answered is what will they do about a sequel?
The 2-D trailer!
Spider Pig!
Whipping Dogs
Lights out at Moe's
[NB - I've added image links to the movie posters but can't see them as am posting from the office, if they don't work, I'll fix later tonight.]

I love both Major League and Major League II, don't get me started on Major League: Back to the Minors though. Bob Uecker aka Harry Doyle is the best thing in both movies!

even Back to the Minors has it's moments. Then again, I'm a Scott Bakula fan.
I was originally going to take the Simpsons movie as my animation pick. I thought it was great, even though I heard from a few people it wasn't that great. I really enjoyed it! But in the end, I had to go with a classic. Good pick though!
I love this movie, there are a few sentimental things about it. It came out just after our first doughter was born and we called her Boo. So for our first night out since we had her we did the dinner and a movie thing and we went to see this one. When we saw her we looked at each other and said that is our Boo, cause she looked just like her and then when Sully called her Boo we both laughed our butts off.
I will do a full post on it this evening with the clips and write up on it.
Oh it's really gory! But you can tell it's fake so it's not too bad. Just like Sleepy Hollow. I love this movie! Johnny Depp was a surprisingly good singer. I love Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movies. Disney announced today that Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter in Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Supposed to be a live-action + CGI movie. I have to watch Sleepy Hollow every Halloween, it's just got a great spooky feel to it.

Damn, now I have the Sweeney Todd soundtrack stuck in my head! "A Little Priest" is my favorite song in the movie.
