Default Wireless Router Lagging NHL09 PS3

I am sorry if this is FATA but I am running a wireless router connection to my PS3. The signal strength is 100% but is lagging a bit. Is this a problem for anyone else or should I not be running wireless to my ps3 and go back to a wired connection?

I think it's more EA's servers. I run wireless, a super-cheap unit, and I rarely lag.

wired will always be faster ....... is your router password protected?? If not i would put a password on it as your neighbors might be using your service and the more people connected the slower it will run.... Also ps online is a free service and with free sometimes comes crappy , if you catch my drift.....ALSO IT COULD BE YOUR internet speed service, i just moved cable companies and it greatly reduced my lagging ...

yeah the thing to remember is that while your router might not be super fast, is it the slowest link in the chain?

as others have already mentioned, you have to make sure your connection speed is fast enough. you have to be sure the ea servers aren't being teh suck as usual. make sure you aren't playing on a team of calgarian when you live 1500 miles away! (oops!!!)

certainly, having wired internet helps when your own network is being slow, but it often is not the slowest piece of the pie. if at all possible, go ahead and hook it up to ethernet and see if you notice a difference. if so, then you can start worrying about how to run cat5 through your floorboards and stuff.

its ok, i was mostly making a joke at my own expense. not sure how far it is 'as the crow flies', but for me to drive to calgary, it would be a nice comfy 1,549 miles! (2,493km)

I found my lag dropped significantly when I went to a hard connection. That being said, getting my hard connection was somewhat of a process. Worth it though ... regardless of how much heat I get over it.

probably about a 3.5 hour drive. we are pretty much due north of you.

being that close you shoudl catch some baby flames games. heck you could see them play in peoria which is only about 2 hours from you.

i just wait til the big boy flames go to St louis and then hit up my friend whose father is Vice Pres of Pepsi in St louis and get some club seats or a box......... I usually go for the club seats as they are comfy and all the free food and beer and pepsi you can drink .... I drank alot the last time i was there as the flames got scored on 15 secs in and lost 3-0

Ping your routers IP address. Even on a wireless connection, I will wager $20 its going to be under a milisecond. Its not wireless that is causing any lag you are experiencing...

Now try running a tracert to a website of your choice, and look at the response times...you step even one hop outside your ISP's network, and I bet you are looking at 15ms or more, which is 15x greater than the latency between your machines and your wireless router.

Edit: I did a bit more testing from my Mac, which is able to report sub 1ms ping results. Wireless comes in at about 0.6ms, while wired comes in at around 0.2ms....either way, the latency one or two hops outside your local network is 10x greater or more, so I really don't think wireless latency is anything to be concerned about.
