Good Photoshop type program

I'm looking for a photoshop-esqe program that can bet attained for free on the internet. It doesn't have to be to fancy, just something where you can take a photo or picture and do some stuff to it, aka making it lighter/darker, change the colors etc. Thanks

It might be more complex than what you're looking for, but it's more or less a free/open source copy of Photoshop.

A more basic free program is Picasa (available from Google). If all you want to do is crop, straighten, do basic colour/contrast and organize your pics it's pretty good. I had not used it until recently as I just reached for photoshop, but I've found it faster to use for a lot of the basic things. Again, it's very limited compared to Gimp, or any flavour of photoshop.
