Default GAME 12: ARGONAUTS vs STAMPEDERS

We all know what happenned the last time the Stamps played against an unproven QB. This time the Stamps players and coaches are saying all the right words and I believe them. I feel the Stamps will pressure young Cody Pickett all game and before we know it, in comes Kerry Joseph.

Don Matthews or "The Don" already made his presence felt after one game as Argos' head coach. I guess it is up to their players if they respond. Personally I would rather see the Argos players stay learning at this point then get ticked off and play better after this game.

OFFENSE:
Great game by Henry Burris last week and deservingly won the "Offensive Player of the Week". Jermaine Copeland been having some good 1 1/2 game and hope to continue all the way to the end of the season and playoffs. Teyo Johnson playing on Nik Lewis spot last week (after Lewis left for injury) looks impressive and his big body helped them on that spectacular Hail Mary Pass by Burris. Ken Yon Rambo is still the leading receiving in yards in the CFL. He too is beginning to play better lately. Brett Ralph is always the forgotten one by opposition's DB always comes up when needed. Nik Lewis and Ryan Thelwell are doubtful for this game. Joffrey Reynolds played well last game. He was banged up a few weeks ago so I guess he recovered. Jon Cornish was used sparingly last week as a fullback or a slotback mainly to help blocking. I have to say the new guy #81 Michael Jennings might surprise us in this game playing WR once in awhile. He will also play as punt returner. Burris will have another super game today.

DEFENSE:
I can just Labinjo, Freeman, Hughes, the rest of DLs and the LB crews (Armour, James, Rasheed and Carpenter) getting pumped up. They will pressure the new QB this time and we'll see them boost their QB sack numbers. I am saying this because I don't think Pickett is good enough. It is because the defense once to let everyone know that they learned their lessons last time and it will never happen again.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Too bad Sandro stopped his streak last game against the Als. Nothing to worry about because the best kicker in the CFL starts another streak after the missed field goals. Punter Burke Dales is getting better angling the ball and he sure can kick it long. Coverage team is always good but they will have a tougher task this game against an explosive Dominik Dorsey. Kickoff return is never a problem for the Stamps and they are pretty consistent. I guess it is not fair to question the punt return last game with Howell and Jennings because we did not see them much. But all season we need to get better punt return.

ROSTER MOVES:
STAMPS:
Former Arena Football League DB Keon Raymond and RB Demetris Summers are in for DB Milton Collins(concussion) and LB Marc Calixte(knee). Also, doubtful are DB Julian Battle, R Nik Lewis and R Ryan Thelwell. Lewis says he will play so we will find out in game time.

ARGOS:
OL Andrew Greene, S Will Poole, SB P.K. Sam and DL Claude Harriot are in.
OL JUde St. John(hamstring), FB Steve Schmidt(shoulder), R Nathan Hoffart(shoulder) and LB Michael Fletcher(foot) are out.
Former UofC Dinos OL Mark Dewit will be a starter for the first time. QB Cody Pickett will also start his first game.

Stamps offense should keep the Argos D guessing all game by mxing up plays (running the ball, passing short yardage, long yardage). Defesne should let the new guy know that they mean business and keep on pressuring him. Pressures must come from everyone on Defense.

Game time at 4:30pm at McMahon Stadium. TSN will broadcast the game(subject to blackout)

GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Game is on TSN right now. Nice to see a game starts at 4:30pm for a change.

First play kickoff return by Michael Jennings was a good return but Stamps went 2 and out. Burke Dales punted the ball. It hit 3 yards line but the ball went on the end zone for a single. 1-0 Calgary

Cody Pickett's first play was a missed. The second play was supposed to be a fumble but Toronto threw a challenge flag. The call was overthrown as the referee ruled it incomplete. TO punted the ball and Howell ran for a good return.

Burris started on a great field position but Stamps missed out on the opportunities of scoring a TD. Sandro kicked a field goal 4-0 Calgary.

TO Dorsey had a good return but Toronto couldn't capitalized on the good field position. TO kicked a field goal 4-3 Calgary.

Slow start offensively again for the Stamps. One bad penalty already as well, a face mask that moved the Argos into FG range.

First quarter were dominated by defense on both sides. Late in the quarter Burris is starting to move the ball towards the end zone. 2nd quarter started Reynolds ran to the 2 yards line, good block by Teyo Johnson. Then, on short yardage, Burris to WHO?????? Mike Labinjo for a Touchdown. 11-3 Calgary.

10:46 left in the second quarter. Sandro just kicked another field goal 14-3 Calgary.

So far, I noticed 3 awesome blocks by Stampeders' players. First one was Rob Lazeo coming back blocking the blitz. Then Teyo Johnson good block to give Reynolds lots of opening. Then Reynolds made a good block on TO's defense before he can get to Burris.

2:37 left in the 2nd quarter. Burris to Nik Lewis TD. Another good block by Teyo Johnson. The game could have been a blowout by now if the offense clicked in the 1st half. The score is now 21-3 Calgary

Ist half is over and Calgary is ahead 21-3. Stampeders D are awesome today so far not giving Pickett a lot of time to stand in the pocket. Run defense is having a blast as well. Stampeders had 2 QB sacks late in the half.

Offense started really slow. They missed a few opportunities on the red zone and Burris also threw an INT before the end of the half. I cannot fault Burris on that INT as you can see on the replay Copeland seems to have the ball but TO DB took the ball away from his hand on the way down. So far, all the receivers touched the ball so far except Teyo Johnson and Copeland. Thelwell caught for 34 yards, Ralph good catch and great mind not to drop the ball after the big hit. Nik Lewis already had a TD and Rambo made some spectacular move on one catch. Heck even DL Mike Labinjo caught a pass for a TD from Burris. Reynolds is having a good day running and catching the ball so far.

Calgary should not change their defensive pressures and Calgary offense should start capitalizing on their red zone chances. From what I heard so far, Don Matthews might not replace Pickett because he wants to show the other players he is very serious on his threat.

End of 3rd quarter, Wes Lysack INT for TD. Calgary 31-4.

Early on, Vanderjagt missed a field goal 21-4 Calgary. Then Calgary took possession on 3rd down punt. Calgary got to Vanderjagt and took over close to the end zone. Unfortunately, Calgary could not capitalize on their red zone chances again. Calgary 24-4. Then of course Lysack INT.

These commentators sound like they need grief counseling. Ridiculous.

Burris should have come out at the start of the 4th. Very reckless to leave him in there.

Final Score: Calgary 34 Toronto 4.

Calgary Defense played awesome game today but of course they were helped by the Argo's sloppy offensive plays. Announcers keep saying Pickett really played well which I don't understand. He is an average rookie QB today and yes the receivers were dropping passes but he did overthrew a lot of balls. Give the Stampeders a lot of credit today and it is a team effort defense.

Calgary offense would have scored 50-60 points if it wasn't for alll the missed chances on the red zone. Burris was just okay today and the reciving corps are played their normal routines with the exception of Nik Lewis. RB Joffrey Reynolds gained 112 yards today. By the way, should someone tell RB Jon Cornish to put his uniform properly especially his pants. He seems like he's adjusting his pants up everytime he runs.

Special Team: What can I say about Mr. Automatic Sandro deAngelis? The coverage team I guess did very well against Dorsey. Return team is a lot better today compared to the other games.

Calgary is now 8-4 for the season. If Saskatchewan lose the game to BC and Edmonton wins (hopefully not), there is going to be a 3-way ties on the top spot and the 4th place will be just 2 points behind.

How do you feel about the Stamps just ran out the clock before the end of the game? Fans seems to hate it and the commentators thinks it is a classy move by Hufanagel and the gangs.

Overall, the Stamps could have done better but I am happy with the win. What a sad sad situations in Argoland right now. Kerry Joseph might be back next game or he might not be. Just one thing for sure..... I HATE THAT FUTURE SHOP commercials with him acting like a complete moron!!

Next game for Calgary will be in Toronto.

Hey, next year at this time you might be living that commercial at your local Future Shop after Joseph gets cut...

Dull game, but the Stamps completely outclassed a team they should have, which all you can ask. Next week it'll be a bit closer but the Stamps should still win by a couple touchdowns.

I thought it was the right thing to do. I was very surprised at all the booing from the fans over this.

I also think it was the right thing to do especially if you consider they play the Argos again next week.

That's true. Him and Jesse Lumsden after his short career in the CFL. The guy seems to be injured all the time.

I think Stamps better play a lot better next game especially on offense. If the Argos weren't as bad offensively, the game was not that far off. They missed on a few Red Zone chances and they weren't really moving the ball as well against the Alouettes or any previous game. Penalties are still way too many as far as I am concerned. Like I said the win was not perfect but it is a win.

One thing I loved about this game was how good the defensive tackling seemed to be, at least from where I was sitting. Other than one big Dorsey run late in the game, the first man to the ball almost always brought his man down. And the receivers did pretty well. Most of the incomplete passes were the result of bad throws or throwing into tight coverage.

A lot of booing around me when the Stamps took the knee at the end, but I think it was the right call. Don't want to give them more motivation for next week, and. I thought that part of it was because we hadn't seen a touchdown at the north end all game. I had no idea that it was widespread throughout the stadium.

Everyone booed in the moment because we all want blood. And TD's. Everyone loves TD's. But I bet if you asked people who booed the next day if it was the right move to take a knee the majority would say yes.

I found the game on t.v. in Omaha this weekend! I've been missing CFL football since I've been down here. I don't know if this was a once in a lifetime event or a regular occurance, but I'm hoping to watch the Stamps as often as possible.
