The Toronto Blue Jays are set to confirm that Cito Gaston will return as manager for the 2009 season, and that means J.P. Ricciardi will also return according to a Toronto newspaper report.

By the way, a headline from Monday in the Bay area.
49ers, Raiders, A's, Giants win; Earth spins out of orbit
Quote:
That's rare. Since the Raiders moved back to Oakland in 1995, we have hit that superfecta only one other time in 13 years. On Oct. 7, 2001, the 49ers beat Carolina 24-14 and the Raiders beat Dallas 28-21. In baseball action, the Giants closed their season with a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers, and the A's rested up for the playoffs by beating Anaheim 6-2 in the JV game.

Edit - Of course, this was supposed to be in the NFL thread. *forehead slap*

Oh how quickly this thread has fallen. The PLAYOFFS! wagon must have crashed into a big green monster of a tree.
Jays win two in a row to keep some of that (scarce) pride.
Who is skeptical about Cito next year? (I am)
Will Godfreid come back?
What about JP?
Manny?
I still think BB can mash . Stupid collusion.
EDIT: after seeing highlights, I no longer distrust the Bautista acquisition (henceforth known as 'The Good Bautista').
Also, BJ is making me more and more nervous. Does he go up or down? Does he have value in some GMs eyes? (I think so)

Well if JP and Cito are coming back, I would think that means Paul is leaning towards coming back too. They were saying on TSN that the Jays will try to do something to see if they can retain A.J Burnett. Marcum apparently still has some tenderness in his arm so that is a bit concerning for them. Thats the reason it's not the best idea to trade pitching even if you seem well stocked at it. Every year you will get injuries and a lot of guys have promising careers cut short because of it.
Even with injury the past couple years Burnett still threw 150+ innings in the starts he did make. This year it looks like Litsch, Burnett, and Halladay will be the only Jays pitchers to throw more than that. Every year it amazes me how few pitchers do manage to throw 162 innings, mostly because it's a position where injuries will occur.

There is rumours floating around that Marcum's injury is way worse than orginally expected, he had an MRI done and I believe he is seeing another doctor today.... Something should be released either today or tomorrow as a guess..
Rumours are he may need "Tommy John" surgery. If that's true it would eliminate next season for him.....

Here is an interesting story form TSN...
http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=2499...=secStory_main
"Marcum, who left Tuesday's start with forearm tightness and numbness in his pinky finger, underwent an MRI Thursday and Dr. James Andrews was to give the results a second opinion.
GM J.P. Ricciardi refused to offer any details pending Andrews' assessment, but the grim tone with which both he and manager Cito Gaston spoke didn't bode well for the right-hander.
"The way he had to leave the game, the numbness in his fingers and elbow, there's always a fear," said Gaston. "We're just hoping it's not as bad as we're all thinking it might be.""

Yikes....well that puts the Jays at AJ Burnett's mercy now.
Next year's rotation would otherwise look like:
Halladay
McGowan
Litsch
Purcey
????

Trade Halliday and Wells and start over with no JP! Unfortunently this has sunk the team for next season, and we need to start fresh and new

AJ is going to bend JP over, but then when all the good FAs are gone, he will sign with NY.

I'd call that opinion moronic, but getting his name wrong does it for me.

AJ Burnett with a big hug for Halliday as he wins his 20th in another complete game. Let's hope Doc talks AJ into staying.

Well that was another great season from Roy Halladay. 38 wins from the top two pitchers on the staff, can't ask for too much more than that.
