Default How long can you leave Mayo out for?

I was just about to make a couple of sandwich's here, and couldn't find the Mayo in the fridge. I then realized I had left it on the table in the basement. It's been there about 2 days. Is it okay to put on a sandwich now? Keep in mind, I'm really craving a sandwich.

Thanks

Mayo is actually a life form from another planet that can survive in even the world's harshest conditions. Have not fear, its fine.

Miracle whip is even better as it is an organic form of Transformer...

"Miracle Whip: More Than Meets the Eye!!"

Dude, dont be a wuss, that Mayo is legit.

BTW where were you and Uncle Chester on Sunday?

All mayo is egg based, so even if it has preservatives leaving it out for a significant amount of time can make it spoil. You can usually let food sit out between 2 to 4 hours before it goes bad on you so at 2 days I would just throw it out.

When in doubt, throw it out.

Skip it or feel the wrath in 12-24 hours. Mayo isnt trustworthy after 2 days at room temp..

It's gone.... Chalk it up to experience and kick yourself in the arse, it could have been worse.

Like the time I bought a new box of those damn good Costco egg rolls, got home and nuked two rolls, then went to bed because I was passing out watching tv. Go to work the next morning (typical sleep in and rush out the door) and get home to a nice sweet smell.... the smell of a defrosted box of egg rolls sitting near the kitchen window in 35 degree heat all day... mmmmmmmmmm. What a piss off that was. I'm pretty bad for doing this. There's been a few times I've discovered the previous nights leftovers still sitting on the stove when I wake up or get home.

You can leave mayo out for as long as mayo does not grow legs and walk away. I wouldn't eat it at that point.

An ex-girlfriend introduced me to the elementary rule when it comes to food. Think about when you used to leave your lunches in the coat room in elementary school, and when you'd go back to get your lunch.

If it falls within that time frame, you should be safe. Anything past that, and you can still call in sick at work.

EDIT: Elementary rule does not apply to 2 days tho... unless you were that kid that no one liked to talk to... then it totally works.

I maintain my stance that you should feed it to a kid first to find out.

Preferably a neighbor's kid. One that you dont like. If he dies then throw it out. If he lives, and thats a big IF, then seek legal counsel immediately. troutman isnt busy on mondays, hes your best bet.

What exactly was going on in the basement that you needed the mayo down there?

I wouldn't eat it on a bet.

When in doubt...throw it out. Unless you want to be on the crapper all day. My wife is a phi and she wouldn't eat it. She did however say that nothing will probably happen to you....have fun.
