I asked in another thread but it seems to be dead now.
Can anyone tell me how much control I have over the rosters? Can I set up the rosters (exactly like the NHL) and play BAP or a Dynasty without worrying about players being traded all over the damn place?

In BAP mdoe you have no control because you are just a player, in Dynasty mode you are the GM so you can make trades as you want.

I'm now set to join this group as I can't go more than 3 games without getting an Unreadable Disc Error and the clear cache method posted on easports.com is only temporary I'm going to take the disc back tomorrow but i'm not holding my breath as this is just crap from EA

I thought 2008 was the best gameplay EA has ever had, and am very glad they only made minor changes. Why fix it if it aint broke?

Mainly becuase I don't like paying $60 for a patch.

I just got the game yesterday, and man BAP is sweet, I love it, wanted EA to do that for a while now. There's a couple things I'd change with it, but it's new and will only get better. The gameplay for the dynasty mode as other have mentioned is fairly similar with minor tweaks but I'm fine with that as 08 was awesome game. I wish you could make requests to change your position during the BAP as I'm getting kinda bored playing left wing all the time, anyone know if there's a way to switch to center or right wing?

I have to chuckle a little bit at this.
For years, that was the knock against EA: the lack of innovation from year to year. It was like, as you said, they simply update the roster and release a $60 patch each year. The 2K series began nipping at their heels and some would argue even surpassed EA.
Then along came NHL 08 and, at least on the two next gen systems, it represented a quantum leap forward. I've never played a better video hockey game. Although it had its faults, it was nonetheless superb.
Now EA adds an ambitious new Be A Player mode and tweaks other areas of the game and people complain. How quickly we forget.
I don't mean any of this as a knock against you personally. Before EA thumbed its nose at PC and Nintendo gamers (we exist, I promise) I complained about the exact same things. In a lot of cases, especially with the PC and Nintendo editions, the complaints were probably justified.

My one gripe is how bad QC is at scoring (although maybe its true in real life). In BAP i have 14 points (7G, 7A) as a left wing in 16 games on PRO difficulty and the next closest scorer (Lundmark) has 9 points (3g, 6A). Its like if i don't score in a game our team gets one goal and sucks. Van Der Gulik (sp?) has the next most goals with 4. Boyd, playing on the first like only has 5 points.
The leading scorers in the AHL have like 18-20 points and nobody on the team is even close.

So to put more into this went back to EB today I had purchased the disc protection, 1st clerk goes to get me a new copy the clerk with him stops him and hands the game back to me says that EA is sending out Emails telling them not to replace the discs, as the customer has to clear the cache and turned the Auto save feature off so I go home and try it out same BS if there isn't a patch for this game in the next week i'll be pissed because it's not my xbox, I played Rock Band 2 and Tiger Woods'09 for about 3 hours after trying the NHL09 and getting an Unreadable Disc Error 4 times.

i have played mostly online and loved it! we have a good group of guys with the ps3 fatas team, so it makes the games funner. i was pretty awful at first, but have improved enough that i don't feel like a hindrance to the team. we have had the fair share of lag problems and ea servers crashing, but overall i think its been fun. though we are having difficult times getting headsets to reliably work.
i have started 2 offline BAP careers. one as a goalie with grand rapids and one as a center in the quad cities. i think i can pretty much echo the complaints here about lack of scoring, but qc has picked it up a bit for me the last few games.
i have yet to start a dynasty which was always my favorite thing. so i feel like with dynasty, BAP, and online, this game can keep me going for a while without getting stale.

This is the first year I haven't started a dynasty. I love the BAP and the online is so much more fun (or as dobbles would say - funner) than it ever has been. You can often make the argument that sports games are just simple updates on previous years. I don't feel that complaint works for this game (or any of the next gen ea hockey titles for the last few years).

I've been sick as a dog since the game came out, which was pretty good timing because I've taken time off work and played about 35 games of 'quick ranked versus play' and I haven't had a single problem with the servers (on the XBOX360), I think they have improved from last year.
As a surprising note, I've tried out most of the teams online and I seem to dominate with the Nashville predators. I've gone 4-0 since trying them out and have outscored my opponents 17-1 (!). The predators are fast, great puck control, passing and shooting, the goalie is fantastic, yet they have the second worst team stats in the game (thanks to the LA kings 72 goalie rating) V V

I hear ya man, I really do. NHL 08 was a HUGE leap forward and thus buying the game at full price was worth it. However, updated rosters and a new feature hardly justify $60. And are the rosters for 08 not going to be updated anyways once the season starts? I admit I'm somewhat new to the consoles but could they just not have charged like $10-$20 for the new feature for those who already have 08?
To me, the only people that will get full value for this are those who just bought a system or didn't have the game before. Maybe that was their plan all along. Dunno.

My only gripe is the stick lift. It's a good feature to have, but it works too well. I find the games turn into a button hack of (X) now in order to compete, because the move simply works too well, and the penalties for missing the lift don't happen often enough.
As with most new features in an EA game, they're overused the first year, and EA will tweek them in the next few years so they work right, but for now, I find that move a bit annoying.

Now in 20 games I have 20 points and Boyd only had 7 points. But suddenly in the 21st game he UNLEASHED for 5 goals. WDF!!!! I assisted two of them, but he had a golden stick that game.
Then he didn't do anything for the next 3. Anyways that five goal game was just nuts...everytime he shot it, it went in.
Good times though.

I am disappointed with NHL 09, but it's mainly just me. I didn't play 08 all that much, but I think it's the hype of a new season that gets me to buy the game, then realize I don't like playing it all that much. That and I always say I'm going to boycott EA, but because of this game, I never can
