Yup, it's just frustrating because pretty much every path I have available to me to get to work is now under heavy construction... Unless I go through Red Deer. From Chestermere.

Hmmm. Only a single left turn lane from Barlow to Deerfoot South while there is 3 lanes for Barlow onto Deerfoot north.

The people I curse are the sadistic bastids that gleefully sychronize stretches of lights so that you hit red after red after red.
It may help a bit. This is still a pretty major artery for regular as well as commercial commuters though.
To be fair, there is a sub-station there, with lots of power lines, so a fly over may not work in this situation. Possibly a fly under?

But common.. why the love affair with traffic lights in this city? Every other major city has interchanges, fly overs, fly unders, etc.

Also, if you do away the lights, then you don't have any bastids to to synch the lights so you hit every single red on

First off- most major cities where I have driven on the freeways; there are always lights on the feeder roads just like here. I'm thinking Phoenix, LA, San Fran, Seattle. Heck- a lot of them have lights on the on-ramps too. Part of that is cost, and part of it serves to meter traffic. If everybody from Canyon Meadows Drive could get onto MacLoed with no lights, you would cause a traffic jam at the merge point. Better to keep people waiting ahead of the merge point, create a small jam, then let it clear, then repeat.

The other factor is available land. Not only does it cost a lot more to build a flyover, but you also need to use up a lot of land. They are building interchanges for the ring road; because the land is available. That's part of Calgary's problem- we went from being a small city to a big city. Now we have to turn small roads into freeways, and that doesn't always work so well.
