I think the Hatcher trade will be the Risebrough winner for sure this year. First you trade two players who are still usable in this league for him...Than he gets bought out for 8.5 million. Ha ha!

Yea not a good couple of moves here for the Preds. I think they'll be the first to admit that. But I guess losing Hatcher is better than trading one of their better players just to cut cap.

It wasn't that bad was it?

I traded Hatcher, Glencross and a 3rd to Nashville for Parrish and Aucoin.

Well, sometimes you have to do things like this to recover from trades that aren't the best for your team. It sucks, but at the same time, 1.5 million in cap room could be worth a bit with the way salaries are right now.

Well to be honest we knew he was expensive, but then when he took a beat down in the re-rate it was a matter of time*. I know that it only saves $1.5, but that just happens to put us in the black.

When we traded for him we didn't expect things to go this way, but we had to do something and this at least erases the memory of a horrible deal for us at the same time as making us solvent!

*Not a complaint, just stating the fact that he dropped by 4pts or so.

I give Slava credit for swallowing his pride and doing this. As someone else mentioned the other choice was to trade Hatcher+something else of value just to bribe someone else in taking the cap hit.

This way he saves all his assets, gets under the cap. The trade is a sunk cost - move on and focus on making his team better. Smart move.

I was actually planning on doing the same thing with Kris Draper if the trade route failed, so I completely understand where Vic was coming from in this move. It had to be done.

Wow, crappy news for Vic. If the Preds could've held on to him until he makes a decision, or if the dirty b@#$!#% could've announced this earlier he could've saved Vic $8.5 Million.

One more reason to hate Hatcher!
Sorry about your luck Victor.

Oh man...that would suck for the Predators. If he retires that would have been the best thing that could have happened...fart give anyone in this league 10 million in spare cap right now and they could go on a trading rampage and do very well.

I don't think he's going to actually retire. This is basically the same situation Mike Rathje was in - if he retires he gives up his contract. He can be placed on Long-term Injury and still collect.

If he does retire screws me too - I would lose the player and the buyout would put me over the cap, while being a short a dman.

Fingers crossed.

Actually very similar to Rathje and not too far off what happened to Nattress as well. it's not like he's saying he'll retire and it happens right this second, you have time to farm him if you think there's likelihood... either or it's only a 2 million total so we're talking roughly 800K.. sucks but not something that should sink a vetern GM or even cause one to flintch

There wasn't a lot I could've done to see this coming though. I got into trouble with him trying to predict the future in the first place, so this would be one last way for him to kick me in the marble-sack I suppose!
