Default Fotze! Tron! It's Gone!

I remember you two saying something the last time I whined about that playground zone on 26th with the multanova always there (agreeing with me I think). I just noticed today that they took the signs out and replaced them with the picture of the kid chasing the ball. I'm so f'n gun shy about that playground zone that I automatically slow down to 30 and instead of watching for children, I stare at my speedometer.
Today I got honked at by the guy behind me... I kept going 30, looking for the end of playground zone sign which just never appeared... Then I circled the block and saw that they're all out, all around that stupid field with the kiddy park way in the corner.

So this begs the question: why were they there in the first place? My contention on this particular playground zone has always been that it's merely a fishing hole. I think I've been proven right.

Shouldn't playground zones have playgrounds within a km of them?

That's up the street from my house, I'll have a look. Are you talking about the playground zone on 20th street and 26 ave? Across from Volos?

Get yer head outta the gutter firefly......

LOL! Well done...

And yeah, I mean the one at 20/26. It's now just a bunch of signs with the kid chasing the ball. No more playground zone.

Remember that kids who aren't chasing a ball can be run over at will.

I still slowed down there just yesterday, I don't trust them. So the sign is just a warning that children might be present?
What is the criteria for this change? Will other zones follow?

Probably alot of people complaining about the legitimacy of it. I can understand if there was a playground zone on the other side of that field, over by the kiddy park. Having it on 26th ave is just a fishing hole.
Whatever the reason was to change it, I applaud the decision.

I know the city was talking about getting rid of some playground zones that are no longer being used by kids.

What I'd like to know is when they plan on getting rid of the "World's longest playground zone" on Elbow. For crying out loud, the rest of Elbow around there is 40 anyways; is that not slow enough? Especially since I have never seen kids playing there. I see kids walking with their parents.

Was this playground zone part of the pilot project approved in April? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/sto...und-zones.html

Sure would be nice if City Council's business and minutes were more accessible on their own website...

Exactly. The same reason that there are so many traffic calming measures and a low speed limit there in the first place!

After driving through that zone a few times today, I'm starting to be retroactively angry at the tickets I got in there. I got two or three tickets in that zone when I first moved in a couple blocks away. I learned my lesson the expensive way and never sped in that area afterward, but I always noticed the multanova. The guy practically lived there. He was there at least 3 times per week. It just annoys me that they milked the zone for all it was worth and then arbitrarily took out the playground signs.
I don't understand how it was dangerous to go more than 30kph yesterday and then today it's 50.
I mean, for the level of enforcement that zone got, you'd think that suddenly taking out the signs would result in the deaths of a classroom worth of kids.

F. I know. Two days ago. Makes no sense to me. Wait. Yes it does. It was such a good fishing hole they decided to put it back in because money's short these days.
