I'm kind of curious how they got a goal against Croatia.

They apparently scored on their only shot on goal in that one.

Wow, Nina Rapo's (CRO) save percentage is .000
Although Croatia's starter, Lana Belic, also had a .000 percentage; although that was because she didn't get a single shot against her.
So looking at the 3 games, Bulgaria had a total of 5 shots on net (4 in the Italy game, one in the Croatia game), and no player had more than one shot.
That's just crazy.

How about the 66 PIMs in the third period. One wonders how many of the 37 spectators stayed for the whole game.

Some even-handed reporting from the Sofia Echo:
Quote:
Bulgaria could have hardly hoped for a successful run in the competition, although this ruthless and systematic destruction was nothing short of a national embarrassment.
The only message to the Bulgarian ladies team would be: don’t lose heart. You deserve your country’s gratitude for participating, for this is what sports is really all about. You also deserve your governments’ apology for embarrassing you in such way and for the pathetic state of affairs of ice hockey in the country.

Damn you, ruthless Slovakia, you will pay!!! No one destroys Bulgaria with impunity!!

Croatia, who outscored Bulgaria 30-1, was outscored by a combined 35-1 in their other three games, including losses of 8-0, 9-0, and 18-1.

Well, it's not like Croatia has much to brag about when it comes to hockey. They are in a tier below Italy and Slovenia.
Although, they are making some gains. Frank Mahovlich had a hockey camp there a while back and they are looking at getting more of their teams into the Slovenian league for better competition. As well, a Croatian born and trained player will be playing in Finland this year which is a pretty big deal. Besides Goran Bezina (who was Swiss trained I believe), it's probably the highest profile hockey export from there.

They say 81-0 is the hardest lead in hockey to defend. Kudos to Slovakia for not letting up and showing that killer instinct!

This does not make that great of a story. Now if they had coughed up the 82-0 lead then I'd be running to tell everyone.

Video!
http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/09/s...on-giving.html
The second video is just embarrassing on so many levels... At 77-0, Bulgaria simply pulled the goalie and played with six skaters. The girls, without goal pads, were doing a better job it seemed of stoping the puck. Only problem: They were closing their hands on the puck in the goal crease. Penalty shot after penalty shot after penalty shot.
I find Canada vs. the USA often slow and boring in womens hockey. This... well... it's understandable why there were only 34 fans.

Holy jesus...like are they even trying? It's one thing to lose badly, but at least try and do something about it. I'm pretty sure you could randomly pick 20 people off the street here and throw them into this game and they would compete better than the Bulgarians.
It aggravates me just watching that. why are they even playing if they're just going to stand around and let the other plays skate right past them?
