Pretty good record considering they won 4 games last year...in fact thats a great bounce back.
I think that Favre needs a couple more weeks of practice to learn the playbook and absorb an entirely new system...which should let that squad get even better. Now with NE being brought back to the rest of the pack....both Buffalo and NY have real good shot at that division IMO.

They don't award the Superbowl in week one, but from what I saw yesterday, the teams in the NFC save the Seahawks looked better prepared to start the season than the AFC teams save the Steelers. Chicago and Carolina in particular scored big road wins over a couple of big AFC favorites.

Personally I think you need 3 weeks before you can say Team A is good or Team B is bad. there will be an upset or 2 every week of the year, but in week 1 you have no idea if it is an upset or those teams really are that good or that bad.

That is a good call!
Look at Denver, Detriot, & San Fran last year. Those three teams started out 2-0 and ended up finishing 7-9, 7-9 & 5-11 respectively.

Patriots are done. Without Brady and the eye in the sky they don't have a chance. Cassel hasn't started a game since high school. (how does a QB end up in the NFL with only 33 pass attempts in college?) As a Chiefs fan, I know first hand that the Chiefs stink. Their D is good, probably really good if they were not on the field 80% of every game, but the offense is one of the leagues worst. The Patriots D almost lost the game, probably would have if it wasn't for Butter Fingers Bowe. How is the Pats D going to stand up to the Bills, Jets, Colts, Steelers or Chargers? If the Pats offensive isn't moving the ball. Moss will sulk and be as useless as he was with the Raiders. The AFC is wide open at the moment, with the Steelers being the early favorites.

*Sigh* I am starting to forget when my 49ers actually meant something. The Cowboys look tough especially that freakish O-Line.

The Lions were 6-2 at the halfway point of the year! You never know in this league. The phrase "any given Sunday" exists for a reason. There's very little to differentiate between teams in that league.
The teams that have better-than-average quarterbacking and freaks at the skill positions tend to do better on a long-term basis. But any team can go in and win the trench battle on any given Sunday and beat a team they aren't supposed to.

I loved what I saw out of the Saints D yesterday, and was especially impressed(and surprised) with the play of rookie CB Tracy Porter. He made some huge plays and kept Galloway in check all day. I kept expecting Galloway to give Porter his "welcome to the pros, rook" double move for a 65 yard TD, but it never came(which can also be attributed to the increased pressure the DL brought. I was very impressed what I saw out of Sed Ellis).
The offence had some rust, which I guess is expected on opening week, but I still liked what I saw. Bush looked great when taking quick pitches out of the backfield, and I LOVED what I saw out of Shockey, the energy he brings to the O is contageous. Unfortunately I still worry about our inside run game. PT looked good, but once he went down our run game fell off. Bush may have looked solid on those pitches, but I still felt he was dancing too much on hand-offs. If the Saints can establish a consistent and effective inside run game(through either Deuce, PT, Stecker, an FA signing(Alexander?) or all of the above), then this offence is complete.

Porter played like a champ! I heard he was a bit cocky, which is exactly what you need to be a good CB in the NFL. When McKenzie comes back (hopefully next week) the Saints could have a pretty strong secondary.
Of course, the DL pressure was an immense help. It was so good to see Charles Grant getting some love again from the fans!
Good quote from Reggie after his long TD: "The play before he was talking trash and the next play he (Jermaine Phillips) was on my highlight tape..."

The worst part is they will suck, Nolan will be turfed for having 3 poor years, and a new coach will come in and bring a new staff. Which will mean another new set of systems.
You can't succeed when you have a new set of systems every year. Get a consistent O-Line, a solid set of D-Line/LBs. Once you have that, you are going to be competitive in every game, and you have time to develop your skill positions. One or two skill positions mean nothing without the foundations in place.
And I think Holmgren is destined to come "home" to the 49ers next season. Give him as much responsibility as he wants and give him 3 years and the ability to make ANY changes he feels necessary.

Confirmed, Brady is having surgery and has been placed on the IR.
Quote:
The 2007 NFL Most Valuable Player will be placed on injured reserve, the Patriots said Monday, one day after his knee was injured in the first quarter of a 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
A statement issued before coach Bill Belichick's news conference said Brady will have surgery, ending his 128-game starting streak, the third longest for a quarterback.

Via Darren Rovell's blog, Vegas Super Bowl odds move in response to Brady's injury:
At the Wynn Las Vegas, the Patriots were the favorite to win the Super Bowl, listed at 7-to-2 to win the Super Bowl before the injury. The odds have now gone up by 2.5 times to 10-to-1.
Only three teams--the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers--have better odds to win the Super Bowl, said the hotel's race and sports book director John Avello. The Colts are also listed at 10-to-1.

Yeah, I was saw that while surfing through the games - he just made a cut, looks like he slipped and went down in pain grabbing his knee.

Yeah, Seahawks now have top 3 recievers out, probably even 4 with Obamahu. And letting DJ Hackett go to CAR (no loss, fumbled at least once yesterday) they have virtually no one to play receiver that has played more then 3 games in the NFL.
Bad news, considering Hasselebeck played 1 quarter in the preseason before getting an owie, and is a guy that starts slow, and plays favourites with his receivers at the best of time...and now he has literally no-one other then his TE's (rookie from ND).
And, the Seahawks are pretty tight to the cap too, so not a lot of airlifts are going to be coming in and helping out...Morris didn't finish the game and Jones looks far from a guy that's going to go 1500yards this year, so SEA is screwed offsenively.
How about trading Hasselebeck to the town he has a crush on (to the point of gagging)(NE), get one or two receivers there, but get some cap room.
Go with Frye/Wallace and some decent recievers until those other start returning..that combo is better then a unconfident Hasselbeck throwing to rookie receivers.
Half joking, but I'm far from convinced that Hasselebeck, in his 10th year, is the guy to go to when the going gets tough...he still makes basic mistakes that 2nd year guys make...SEA needs a leader on offense as they have for a while, and now that things aren't so rosy anymore as they have been the last 5 years, his leadership is going to be the only thing that holds that offense up, and I have my doubts if he can carry the load.

I think the Packers are going to be just fine with Rodgers.
