Not sure when my next pick will come up, but this weekend is going to be insanely busy (Rehearsal dinner tonight, moms wedding tommorow, hung over Sunday) so I am PMing my picks to Girly so as to not hold anyone up. I know how impatient I can be with this draft, I assume at least a few of you are the same
The B-List Celebs are happy to select in the category of Comedy, Revenge of the Nerds.
This is one of my favorite movies, it makes me proud to be a geek\nerd.
When lovable nerds Gilbert and Lewis embark on their freshman year at Adams College, little do they realize the perils that await them. They're beset with taunting by the jocks of Alpha Beta fraternity, which only worsens when the jocks accidentally burn down their house and are forced toss the freshmen out of the freshmen dorm. To make matters more problematic, Lewis develops a crush on pretty Betty Childs, popular sorority sister and quarterback's girlfriend. Joined by the aptly named Booger and the violin-playing Pointdexter, the nerds soon realize they must form their own fraternity in self-defense. Soon the tables are turned as the nerds employ high-tech warfare against the jocks.... but can they really win and make a difference?
For our 8th selection, That's What She Said is proud to select from the Musical category, Rent.
This musical, directed by Chris Columbus, is the tale of one year in the lives of 8 people living on the fringe of society searching for love, acceptance and, of course, a way to pay the rent.
The message is powerful and simple, the cast (many of whom were a part of the broadway show) superb and the cinematography excellent. In many ways, it reminds me of a more realistic, modern version of "Moulin Rouge". The music is often something that makes you want to move and is absolutely something you can listen to away from the movie as well. If you want a musical that is less fluffy than many, I recommend Rent wholeheartedly. (There's even eye candy provided - the men can enjoy Rosario Dawson while the women get Taye Diggs...*yum*!)
YouTube goodies!

La Vie Boheme - my fave number...

^^^nice pick, Jerzee...first movie that I've had in my sights that has been taken before me. I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but it really doesn't compare to the stage production, though I guess that's to be expected. Jesse Martin is absolutely amazing as Collins; the "I'll Cover You" reprise makes me cry almost every single time.
I'll be away for the weekend, but Selfmade Heroes will pick Il Grande Silenzio (1968) in the Western category, mostly because it has one of the best endings ever filmed.

I'll take Little Big Man under Western as long as its appropriate.
A lot of clever lines, has great actors, and is humourous and sincere. Probably a precursor to Forrest Gump.

Brilliant movie! Well done!!!

BF & the BFFs are happy to see our next pick still available... In the category of Action (according to imdb) we are proud to add to what we view to be the strongest contender for the title of Best Film of the 00s... Featuring what will undoubtedly go down as one of the best performances in the history of film... A film that can take its rightful place in our stable alongside its forbearer, Citizen Kane... Paul Thomas Anderson's sprawling, epic examination of the birth and death of the American dream, and his chronicle of the rise and fall of the "unique" American hero created by said dream... There Will Be Blood!
Perhaps the single greatest performance by an actor ever. I mean that.
