Looking out my deck window this morning, thinking of all the places I'd rather be got me to thinking, where is the one place I would truly rather be? Lots of people have "that place".....someplace they've been and it touched them somehow, left an impression, stayed in their memory, however you want to describe it. I discovered mine pretty much two years ago to the day on a holiday road-trip up through the Yukon and Alaska. Tombstone Mountain Territorial Park in the Yukon. Here are a couple pics we took and a brief description I wrote in my blog at the time. What's your place?

"Since my last post the trip has just gotten better. The sights have been amazing, topped by the absolute jaw-dropping view from the Tombstone Mountain viewpoint towards the southern end of the Dempster Highway. You could travel around the world and never see something as incredible as the amphitheatre of sights and sounds provided by nature that we saw the other night."

Both shots are absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to be there right now. My favorite spot, probably because of childhood memories is my families cabin in Shuswap on Salmon Arm. Doing nothing never felt so good...

An honorable to Kootenay Lake and anywhere else I've ever been where I felt really good about being alive.

For me, I love Aster Lake in Kananaskis Park. It's a bit beyond most day hikers range so it can get fairly desolate up there. The silence you can get on the lake shore is amazing.

			too many to list.

I mountain bike a bunch, yet I've only ever dreamed of one spot on one trail my whole life.

Porcupine Rim trail in Moab, Utah. I rode it solo the last day we were there. It rained the night before so my tracks were the only ones. Nothing else made a sound but me that morning. The entire area is breathtaking.

I've been up there myself and it really is amazing! (Excellent photos btw).

I don't know if I could pick a favorite place though...just too many beautiful places I've been lucky enough to visit to make a decision!

What a great idea for a thread. I couldn't get the second link to work, but that first photo makes a hell of a good case for why you would be so touched by that place. It's places like this that make you reflect on your life and what's important in it.

Good thread idea! My favorite place is my family's home in Nova Scotia. The backyard is a large green lawn that stretches out to the cliff side where we have 6 cabins with a fantastic ocean view that my parents rent out in the summer/fall. A year ago my stepfather and I built a staircase that leads to a deck, it is now my favorite place to sit and read and just put things into perspective whenever I visit.

We also built stairs that lead down to the beach at the far end.

This next picture is of the other beach down the road from the other, another one of my favorite places to be.

This next picture is where my friends and I have written and recorded a lot of music and jammed long into the night. Nothing flashy, but a very inspirational place for me and a lot of good times were spent in this room. PS-that's not me with the Salming Toronto jersey on!

Man I would Love to be in any of these 3 places right now, but instead I'm stuck in Winnipeg away from my friends and the ocean for the next year!

Do it. If you've never been north, and have any sort of adventurous streak in you, you owe it to yourself to go at least once. I went back and hiked the Chilkoot Trail last summer and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The Nahanni is next on my list, but really, I'll settle for any excuse to go back up north.
