Hermetically Sealed Packages (Rant)

I think they're just a dirt cheap yet effective means of packaging. They sure are dangerous as hell though. There will be a lawsuit one day and hopefully that will spell the beginning of the end for them.

To me, opening these suckers is my 2nd complaint.

Complaint #1 is the unnecessary large size of some these compared to the product held inside. No doubt some manufacturers make these large to attract more attention to their product, but is a 8" x 11" piece of plastic necessary for a usb memory stick not even 1" in length? Our landfills would probably appreciate it if this type of packaging was toned down or not used at all.

That's actually done for security reasons. Hiding an 8" x 11" package under your jacket is a lot harder to do than an 1" x 1" package. Even if you steal them currently you're getting like 2 at most 3 tops, whereas if you could just stuff the usb stick in your pocket you could wipe out an entire section without your pockets looking much bigger.

to prevent spoilage orwaste? None of the stuff in these containers is going to rot. And the waste is the plastic left over that ends up mostly in the landfill. There's got to be a better way to package goods. It's too bad that there are dishonest people as I think the plastic crap is a theft deterrent.

I see this everyday in Home Hardware at the lumber desk. Like Boblobla said it comes in a clam shell package, which frustrates you even more because the tool you need to open the thing is locked inside. It's like locking your keys in the car. Also, the packaging shows a woman trying to tear open a clamshell package with her teeth, like it is the only other possible way to get through the plastic. Makes me laugh everytime I see it.

This is the EXACT reason I have one folding ultiliy knife in each vehicle and one on the shelf in my house at all times. It may also have something to do with me being a bit of a paranoid knife freak, but that is another story.

It's free because no one has figured out how to get it out. I wonder how many people try to open it with their teeth like the woman on the package. I have to try to find that picture.

It sucked that all the missles were retooled for child safety so they had no chrome and were all elongated. I have original 1984 Sunstreaker though.
