Being a fan of the Blue Jays makes it overly exciting when every HR is hit.
And I don't understand why signing someone who can hit HRs spells the end for Rios and Wells. Frank Thomas didn't.

6th win in a row for the Jays. All a little too late, but still nice to see the boys get some wins. Hopefully this great hitting from Vernon Wells and Alex Rios can carry over to the next season.

Marcum returns from the minors and holds the Rays scoreless for 7 innings. Of course BJ Ryan comes in and blows the lead. Guy struggled yesterday, but they bring him in again because it's a three run lead, tsk tsk. I bet if it was 4-0 they bring in Brandon League and they win the game. Now they have to find some more offence to do it. Ryan just doesn't have closer stuff anymore, and I think he's the third best guy in that bull pen at best right now.

^ Yeah, when your closer isn't even the best guy in your bullpen, something is just wrong.
Gaston should have also seen that B.J. just didn't have it, and pulled him after giving up the 2-run homer.
Sigh.

Actually right now, Carlson, Downs, and League are all much more effective out of the pen than Ryan is. Theres probably others who aren't much different either like Tallet and Frasor.

Great job by Rolen getting a double only to get caught in a rundown between 3rd and home.

Wow, I was watching this through MLB.com, and when Percival mowed through Rios in 3 pitches I switched to do some other stuff figuring that was it.

Great win today by the Jays. They're on a great stretch right now, too bad they couldn't have played like this all year. I predicted 10 games over 500 for them at the start of the season and they're sitting at 9 over right now, but I wasn't expecting a second half like this. It's nice to watch.
Ryan though ... yikes.
I hope they don't get rid of AJ Burnett, the pitching is there if they keep him. Promote one of those guys in the pen to closer and get one or two dangerous hitters and this team has a real chance.

AJ Burnett has a contract option which he likely won't take so that he becomes a free agent.
It's not the Jays' choice.

The Jays just won their 8th game in a row, with Purcey pitching a 1-0 game!
Carlson came out in the 9th and got the Rays 1, 2, 3. That's how it's supposed to be done, B.J.!

Yeah, good start from Purcey, and Carlson really came out and went after them in the 9th. Who knows...19 more in a row...and they might give themselves a shot at the Wild Card LOL.

They have to go 15-5 the rest of the way to have a 40% chance of making it

In the next two weeks Toronto plays Boston 7 times. And Boston's other 6 games in that span are against Tampa Bay.
So if the Jays continue this hot streak through the next two weeks, they'll have an outside shot at the wildcard come the final week. Just keep the current streak going, one game at a time, that's gotta be their focus.

When you think about it, its actually amazing that they are even that close when you consider they play Inglett, Scutaro, and McDonald on a regular basis.

Look at Tampa's current hitting lineup...does it scare you? But if a team gets good pitching and plays good defence they seem to be able to win games. You get teams like the Tigers and Yankees who can hit, but they're not getting the pitching and they don't play as good of defence and their high powered offences can't seem to over come it.
