FWIW, my family purchased a 40" Samsung LCD (the LN-T4071F)~8 months ago and we totally love it.

I'm not sure if they're the best TVs available on the market, but the Samsung sets we looked at in-store were all among the best pictures of all the TVs on display (to our eyes).

I think given the price point you were offered, the Samsung would be a very good choice.

Samsung is coming out with new LCD models of 8?00 and 9?00 series supposedly in a couple of weeks or less. These will have the LED backlight like the xx81F with a huge contrast ratio. Probably be mucho dollars though.

Can someone explain to me the huge price difference in these two models? All I see is that the pricier one has an extra HDMI and weighs 5 lbs more. I must be missing something.

I'd guess the 650 has a better panel and better electronics but I'd try to have a look at them side by side.

Here's a thread on the 650 plasma

Yup. I love mine too and Consumer Reports gave it the best rating even over more expensive models. Not that the Panasonic was cheap
