Office radio
Hey all, wondering if any of you have dealt with a frustration that I'm dealing with now.
The boss called us into the office to let us no we got a sponsorship with a local radio station. Woopty doo! He was giddy like a school girl about the deal he signed. I'm thinking great, maybe more in my pocket indirectly. So that';'s it, lets go back to our desks..... Nope.
"From here on, we are going to listen to Energy 101.5, starting now".
I used to love the fact that my 'cubicle' was right by the radio, music makes the day go by so much better and I don't think I could do without. We usually have Fuel 90.3, X92.9, Cjay 92 or Jack 96.9 on because out of the people working here, there's usually a happy medium between us listening to alternative, rock, 90's, 80's etc.
Right after he changed the station it was Ashlee Simpson, JT and Shakira. I'm loathing the prospect of listening to that shinguard music indefinitely from 9-5.
What should I do? Quit?

Accidentally break the radio and then just bring your own personal player from now on.

That sucks.. Usually you should be allowed to listen to the radio at a reasonable volume between 9 and 11

iPod or other such mp3 player would be my advice, can you wear headphones at work?
OR, start singing along really loud and incredibly out of tune.

I recommend getting a small low power fm transmitter and set it to broadcast on 101.5. Not enough power to take out other radios further out, but it will jam the one in your office. Plug it into your pc or another small hidden radio and play the role of the Energy DJ.
Your boss would never know and would believe he's actually listening to Energy. It's a win-win situation.

a) nothing wrong with the music on Energy
b) pick a better battle. winning this one does nothing to earn you more money or advance your career.
c) if you want to advance, show enthusiasm when your boss is excited about something. not becaus your are a suck up, but because if its good for the business, its good for you.
just my advice.

My boss had to axe listening to the radio at work, as it was causing too many fights between people on our floor. There were some real doozies over what we should be listening to, people got really worked up over the whole thing. There was never a happy medium. So, it was taken away from us.
I would just suck it up. Listen to what they play. I am sure in time you'll be the biggest Ashlee Simpson fan EVAR!

Is it really that hard to just zone out the music? I mean, I can work under most noise conditions as long as its not too loud. My cubicle used to be right next to my company's server room, and they had a problem with the AC in there, so they brought these huge fans that were fairly noisy. It took me about 20 minutes to get used to it, but once I did, I didn't even notice them anymore until they took them out and I noticed it was super quiet. Other people around me were pretty annoyed with the fans though.

I laughed harder.
On a side note I also found the statement that there's nothing wrong with the music on energy coming from somebody with the name "DementedReality" to be very funny as well.

Lol, a scary thought, that's for sure! Don't get me wrong, I for the most part respect my boss and think he makes a good employer.

It's just that we're one of the primary sponsors for an upcoming promotion on the radio.

Yuck. To me, music is a larger issue when sitting at work all day. I haven't listened to Energy very much but I'm going to assume it is no different from the Vibe and repeats the same 7 songs all day? How loud is this radio?? Why does the whole office have to hear it??
I would just turn up my own Internet radio from the computer.
