A question for all of our Edmonton-based CPers. I'm heading up north tomorrow for the Labour Day Rematch and I want to check into my hotel first, which is located just north of downtown. In years past traffic coming into town and up Calgary Trail/Gateway Blvd has been terrible and has delayed me greatly. Are there any good alternatve routes to get me downtown faster around the 4:30-5 timeframe?
Don't know the roads all that well in Edmonton but you could take the new Anthony Henday East to Highway 14, north to Yellowhead and then over. Probably be the same amount of time but you wont be stuck in bumper to bumper.
Note: Last time I was in Edmonton (A week ago) the walterdale road was under construction and it took 15 mins to get from the top of the hill at (gateway Blvd.) to the bottom of the hill. SHould take 45 secs.

Agree. Two weekends ago we were there and our route took us up Gateway to Whyte Ave and then east. Both were under construction for considerable stretches and it took way too long. The Henday route was recommended to me but I'm a bit of an idiot and ignored that advice.
Also a word of warning.. Gateway Blvd at 23ave is under construction. Might have a nice wait there, but I haven't lived there in a while, so not sure what it's currently like at rush hour.
111st is under construction as well, so avoid that.
I would take the Anthony Henday east which then turns north... go all the way until the yellowhead and head west, take wayne gretzky dr south and take 112ave into downtown.

I was stuck in that very construction traffic a couple of weeks ago. Horrible delays.
Using the Southeast ring road is a good idea. But I would exit at 101 Ave/Baseline Road to head into the City, rather than going all the way to Yellowhead.
From 101 Ave westbound, turn right onto 75 Street ("Wayne Gretzky Drive") northbound, then exit onto 112 Ave and take that route westbound into downtown.
Its a long way to go, but should avoid the traffic jams and the major construction projects.
And for those of you who got stuck in that Walterdale Bridge mess, you can thank the idiot truck driver who drove halfway across the bridge with a high load a couple of months ago.
Thanks for the great ideas guys. I'll be in town in good enough time to get ready for the Stamps to beat the crap out of those "sister slammin'" Edmontonians.

I was stuck there on Gateway just last weekend, a little bit north of the Whitemud. I went over to the road that parallels it to the east (99th I think) and it was a breeze.
